Apparently this was my first set of wheels. I must have been very young because I don't really have any memories of it and this photo looks really old. It is actually a bit of a worry as I can not remember my first bike either. I used to walk to primary school. I definitely remember riding to high school because it was a lot further, about three kilometres each way. I could never keep up with my mates on my old single geared pedal backwards brake bike. Once on the way home from school I went through a red traffic light, again trying to keep up with my school mates that had made it through easily. Half way down the hill a policeman pulled me over and told me off for running the red light, but he also was impressed I could stay on the bike going that fast with back wheel so buckled. My mates thought it was so funny. I got off Scott free! The policeman must have felt sorry for the kid on the beat up bike. I even ended up with a brand new 10 speed Malvern star bike when I told my parents the story. At the time a new bike was probably a stretch for my parents it is sort of funny how I had no idea back then but now I can total relate to having to manage money and raising a child.
Getting back to scooters, they have changed a lot over the years. Hell they even have battery ones now. I got quite involved with scooters when my son when he and his mates got into them. I did not ride much, I was more the mechanic and financial support sponsor. We were for ever stripping them down and rebuilding them just to have something unique and different. I think it taught my son a lot of good skills.
My son got into them so much I ended up building a skate ramp in the back yard out of old pergola timbers and scrap materials from work.
