Greetings and all the best for the coming New Year.
It’s the time of year on Prince Edward Island where the weather drops near or below freezing and the fluffy white snow is covering the ground.

When I was younger I enjoyed all the sports associated with winter. Skiing, ice skating and tobogganing were some of the sports that made winter enjoyable.
Now as I get older I appreciate the other three seasons with warmer weather.
The snow looks pretty but shovelling or snow blowing it from the driveway can take awhile.
With global warming the summers are becoming hotter and it’s necessary to have a cooling system for the house if I want a good nights sleep.
With the winter season comes colds and viruses. Hubby has a cough and laryngitis. Even after a round of antibiotics it still lingers on.
Remembering an old recipe my father used to make when anyone in the house exhibited signs of a cold, I decided to make some for Hubby.
Father would take out a small stainless steel pot and add:
-a scant half cup of molasses
-one teaspoon of baking soda,
-two teaspoons of grated ginger
-shot of lemon juice
If he didn’t have lemon juice a shot of whiskey would be added.
This concoction would be mixed thoroughly and heated on the old wood stove. It would be given every few hours to anyone coughing and always seemed to give relieve to coughs, sore throats or stuffy noses.
I wondered if Hubby would take this old time folk medicine but he was so sick of being sick he was willing to try anything.
After a day of taking the mixture, he said his throat felt a little better and the laryngitis seems to be easing.
