Only a guru can dispel the darkness of ignorance..
Today is Guru Purnima, a special day to honor our spiritual teacher, someone who dispels the darkness of ignorance and enlightens the quest for inner wisdom. This is different than Teachers' Day, which is celebrated on 5th September in India, honoring our teacher's contribution for our formal education. The word "Guru" is derived from Sanskrit words, "Gu" (darkness) and "Ru" (remover), so a Guru is seen as one who dispels the darkness of our ignorance and leads us towards enlightenment.

Learn the Truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him with reverence and render service unto him. Such an enlightened Saint can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the Truth.
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 verse 34
I did not have a spiritual leader until last few months, but after medical science could not explain my health related issues, I decided to take it in my hands and upon retrospection, I feel its more of controlling my anxieties by seeking the right spiritual path and now I am in love with Shri Premanand Ji Maharaj, a revered saint of the Radha Vallabh Sampradaya of Vrindaban. Life is going through roller coaster rides and listening to his words of wisdom everyday strengthens our commitment towards our duty, and embark on the path of Bhakti Yoga to transform our life, which is very much necessary at least at this age.
What I like most about him is that his words of wisdom relates to our day to day living of current generation - not the old fashioned wisdom. So you can directly correlate what you are going through and how to heal from that, by practicing his words in our daily action - the ultimate destination for divine bliss and spiritual awakening.
And if you don't know about him, then he is living with kidney (both) failure for last 18 years, after being diagnosed with policystic kidney disease. The doctor who gave him this grim prognosis predicted that he won't survive for more than two to three years, but the doctor himself is no longer alive. He undergoes dialysis three times a week, but if you see his energy level, then you won't believe his condition - even a perfectly health person can't match with him and he attributes that to divine grace and blessings. Next time I am going to Vrindaban, I will try to meet him if I get permission.
I have been even telling my kids to listen to him - the journey of life with honesty, kindness and gratitude will help them a lot as they will have to fight with time - a challenge our future generation will face.
This post is a tribute to my new spiritual Guru on this special day, do you have one ? Do you think, it's necessary ?
