The Week That Was (part 6)

Right now I am watching the last few episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy while sipping Coke No Sugar from a tall clear glass with yellow stripes painted on it.
I got the glass from Hungry Jack’s (Burger King) years ago.

Star Trek: Prodigy is quite good. It’s computer animated and set after most Star Trek shows are. It also has cameos from favourite characters and actors.
It’s aimed at a younger audience while not being childish. It’s kept me sane during the perpetual rollercoaster that seems to be becoming the norm for my life.
There are plans for a 3rd season and I am all for it.
The Week Just Gone
A few people had told me to remain positive regarding the job that I’d applied for. However I know that for my own mental health I cannot keep my hopes up only to be disappointed yet again and then even more depressed than before I saw the vacancy.
The interviewer didn’t call back. I am disappointed, but as I have stated in a previous blog entry, the perpetual rejection is a standard.
I broke down and started crying as I typed this.
I am tired of how stupid humans can be at times and sometimes the rejection gets too much.
The job would have offered a guaranteed 25 hours a week. It would have allowed me to pay my rent and bills on a regular basis without stress.
It would have meant coming home at ridiculous hours of the morning and catching ride share or a taxi home but the regular hours would have covered that.
You cannot judge someone in a 5 minute interview, which is all I was granted because she was busy.
I just want someone to give me a shot. Once I get past the gatekeepers I can prove myself on the job. It’s just so frustrating.
Over the weekend I had the job of working on the gates at the Waville Showgrounds. There were several events on at the same time which meant there was chaos in the carparks.
It’s an easy job when everything is running smoothly.
Occasionally the gates won’t do as they are meant to, but there is an override pass card for most dramas.
The supervisor is racist, loses his temper very quickly and everyone agrees he’s not a good boss at all. He turned on me a few times. It’s enough for me to not want to work with him ever again.
It’s annoying that volunteers are charged for parking; it defeats the point of volunteering and acts as a disincentive.
The cover image is what I wear during the car park shifts.
On Sunday night I was given a second shift which was then cancelled after the shift started because someone else was offered the same shift.
I was so pissed off. It was only a few hours, but at Sunday rates it would have paid off my gas bill.
Plus the guy they gave the shift to already has two full time jobs.
On Monday of this week I had a hospitality shift at the Adelaide Town Hall for the start of NAIDOC week.
It’s about recognising Indigenous Australians.

I was still angry at having the shift cancelled when this was taken.
I was tempted to turn up at the Hotel where I'd applied for the position wearing my white shirt, just to see who they hired instead of me but I felt that would be rather petty and vindictive.
Depending on what I get paid this week will determine whether or not I go back on welfare.
Apparently there’s a 6 week wait for welfare, so I need to be really frugal with my savings until then.
I really, really, don’t want to go back on welfare. It’s not the lack of money it’s the torture of having to jump through hoops just to get that measly stipend.
I know that it will destroy what’s left of my mental health.
People have told me to not to give up, but those people are often in a position where they don’t have the same worries I do.
As crappy as your 9-5 job may be, it’s a consistent income and these days that’s worth hanging onto.
