It has been a busy week doing odds and ends around the house. You know those things that always get put on the back burner for another day.
Defrosting the Meat Freezer
I always defrost it first thing in the spring and then again in November, at least every 6 months due to ice buildup. I'm a little behind schedule so it was time to get to it.
For some reason the top shelf is always the worst. My husband puts a large fan on high to blow warm air into the freezer. While the ice is melting, he has a shop vac ready to suck up any water.
While he is busy doing that, I'm sorting through all the bins and making sure that all the oldest packages are on the top to be used first. I have a bin for beef, chicken, pork, and some veggies.
On the door, I keep sausage, meatloaf, nuts, cheese, and some butter for quick access.
Now that it is all organized once again, I know exactly what needs eating first. I won't be purchasing anything more until I go through what I have on hand. I will be needing the space this fall when I purchase a 1/4 beef cow from a friend. I'm not sure how much room I will need as I've never done that before. I'm a little nervous so focusing on using up most of it.
The Patio
A lot of weeds and moss has been growing in between the pavers, and it was time to kill the weeds.
This one is the worst weed to control, and it spreads in every direction.
I discovered this 45% Vinegar online. It is so strong and knocks out whatever I spray it on. I just add a 1/4 cup of Dawn dish soap and a 1/2 cup of Epson salts to a gallon of water along with 3-4 cups of the vinegar. Then I spray all the weeds between the cracks.
The following morning the weeds were dead. My husband then scraped them all out of the pavers, and one more job was tackled.
House Plants
Some of the plants I had brought outside needed to be re-potted into larger containers. I got that done late afternoon after a little rest on the back porch. I kept looking at the plants and finally decided to take the time to get the job done.
They look a lot better now that they got new potting soil and some fertilizer.
The Fushia was one of them that had outgrown its small pot, now it looks much better in the large clay pot. This plant has put out so many pretty blossoms all spring and summer. It really likes being outside after the long winter months.
Butterfly Garden
The Limelight Hydrangea in the butterfly garden looks so nice in the evening light. The white flowers really stand out, especially the fuller the flowers become.
Nighttime sitting on the porch watching the fireflies light up the yard. With that, I will end this post for today. Thank you for stopping in to see my ramblings on.
