SilverSurfer
Yesterday, I finally made my way back onto Discord. Initially, I was attempting to retrieve my previous Discord user details, but, alas, I let it go… for now. I just couldn’t wait anymore, as I settled on the thought of having Silver Surfer as my Silver Bloggers username. Thank goodness it hasn’t been snatched up yet, or else I may have had to revert to tossing and turning in bed at night, before coming up with something else, haha.
Even while I’m writing this post, there hasn’t been anything else that really jumped out at me.
Silver Shark – Seems a little too snappy
Silver Bullet – Great for taking on Werewolves, Vampires and Witches
Silver Sliver – Makes me think of a dark cloud with a silver lining
The three above could have been potentially good alternative choices, however Silver Surfer was the first and best choice for me.
Why Silver Surfer?
I’ve always liked something that has a dual purpose or meaning to it. Silver Surfer hits the nail on the head for me and I’ll explain the two meanings below, plus what they mean to me.
1) Marvel’s Silver Surfer
Without getting into too much detail, the Silver Surfer was born by sacrificing himself to the planet eater, Galactus, by serving as his herald. He did so to stop Galactus from consuming their planet, Zenn-La. Born Norrin Radd, he was now imbued with a portion of Galactus’ Power Cosmic.
He is a phenomenal philosopher, with a path that always tends to steer towards pro-life as opposed to death.
He has great superpowers, which can be used in an offensive and defensive manner, ranging from time travel, giving life to planets, being able to destroy stars, traveling through space, intergalactic space travel, superhuman strength, manipulating matter, etc. These are but a few to mention… as I said, I won’t go into too much detail, haha.
Oh, I obviously cannot forget about his surfboard, hence Silver Surfer, which is made up of the same virtually indestructible silvery material he’s made of.
In the end, I love the fact that he is such a phenomenal thinker, who eventually ends up on the ‘right’ side. My other favorite part of the Silver Surfer is his willingness to do things for the greater good.
Well, that’s part one, which slots in perfectly with what I enjoy doing, which is writing fiction. Some of you may have picked up on this and it’s my goal to complete a story here on Hive. It will be the first story I’ve ever finished, aside from short stories. I’m looking more in the range of a novel-length; however, I’m just writing it as I go along. When I’m done, I can add or remove more detail to get it to the correct length.
2) Surfing
Surfing here can have a dual meaning in itself, whether it be surfing the web or surfing in the ocean. For all intents and purposes, I'll stick to the latter, although I do enjoy surfing the web at times too.
I don’t surf anymore, however, I loved those days. There are times I browse online looking at both surf and skateboards, then I put it on hold. There are various reasons, however, those details aren’t relevant now.
One of my greatest experiences was surfing at Jeffrey’s Bay. For those in the know, it is one of the best surfing spots in the world. We surfed at Tubes and Point. Coming from Strand in the Western Cape, the absolute power and speed was just phenomenal. We were also blessed enough to have a pod of dolphins swim past us. Everywhere you looked, they were just all around. My favorite surfing experience of all time was those few days in Jeffrey’s Bay.
Aside from the sense of freedom you feel, the joy of catching a great wave and simply enjoying the open ocean, it can also be a great reminder of how powerful the ocean could be. Getting dunked and dragged down to the ocean floor, is a quick reminder of how fragile life can be. It teaches you to be cautious and respectful, yet enjoy it to the max.
As the days pass, my beard gets filled in more and more with gray hairs, so there you have it. Silver Surfer slots in beautifully here too.
That’s it! Done! Finished! Kaboom! Kablam! My Silver name of choice 😊
