So there I am, 7:00 AM and 2 degrees Celsius. The rest of the world is still arguing with their snooze button, but not me. I'm out there. Boots on. Canon R5 in hand. RF800 f/11 mounted like a sniper rifle in a nature documentary. Ready to crush the day.
Iām pumped. Iām locked in. Iām about to shoot some birds. (Photographically, letās not get the internet too excited.)
But here's the kicker: I hear about 11 million birds. Itās like the freaking avian version of Coachella out there. But see them? Thatās another story.
Turns out birds are like influencers: they make a lot of noise online (or in trees) but good luck catching them in real life.
šļø The Pigeon: The Underrated Street Racer
Letās get the āboring oneā out of the way. You see a pigeon and your brain goes, āmeh.ā But this wood pigeon? This feathered linebacker?
Donāt sleep on it. These suckers can hit 0ā60 faster than your average rental car. I caught this one mid-zen on a branch, just chillinā.
Probably meditating on how to dodge falcons at Mach 2.

š The Starling: Natureās Punk Rock Star
Now weāre talking. The real MVP of the morning: the starling.
Black feathers with an oil-slick shimmer, speckles like cosmic glitter, and an attitude that says, āYeah, I do steal other birdsā nests. Fight me.ā
This bird is every rockstar stereotype wrapped in feathers. You think youāre cool with your Patagonia puffer? This guyās been rocking iridescent couture since before you were born.
Caught him vibing on a lichen-covered branch like it was a VIP lounge.

š The Blue Tit: Small But Mighty
This little guy, basically the gym rat of the bird world.
Tiny? Yes. Cute? Undeniably.
But behind that adorable blue mask is a beast whoāll divebomb a hawk for looking at him wrong. I spotted one in a bush having what looked like a philosophical discussion or maybe a standoff. Hard to say.
The way the light hit its feathers? Pure gold. Like if Monet painted superheroes.

You donāt need to be a Nat Geo photographer or a monk-level birder. Just get out there, gear up, and hit record on the beauty thatās been flying over your head this whole time. Literally.
Not every shot will be perfect. Some birds will ghost you like a bad Tinder date. But every once in a while, you get that one image that makes you fist-pump the sky.
And if all else fails? At least you got some steps in.
Stay sharp. Shoot fast. And remember! Birds donāt pose. You gotta earn it.
