I was at a local garden just a few blocks from the house today getting some images for a post for @dswigle 's Always a Flower. I was imaging this bright red Dahlia when this little Hummingbird swoops in right over my left shoulder and buzzing my ear

Now I am in no way set up for humming birds cuz I imaging Flowers...
Low shutter speed, ISO locked at 100, focus set at one shot not AI servo, the list goes on. lol
Away we go !



Shot #1 and it's a little too close, just in from minimum focus distance of 2.8 meters.
Shot #2 was just the flower bud as Hummingbirds tend to move about quite suddenlyand keeping them in frame at 600 mm is a bit tricky.

Shot #3 I'm on it again but my focus is in one shot not continuous focus and my fine feathered friend here won't be still for the 2 seconds to refocus and I add another to the blurry bird collection.. as if I needed more lol




Ok I'm refocused for shot #4 but just as I press down on the button the bird bounces up a few inches and almost out of frame.



Doe !!!! Almost ....
I want it in frame with that big red Dahlia ..... oh yeah and in focus would be nice as well.

OK Shot #5 and it held still the second and a half it took me to acquire focus and Presto.

Was only able to get this one before it pivoted and darted off



Total encounter time was aprox 5 seconds from the first image to the last.
I did reset my camera for high speed but it's a public garden and there are more than a few families here with lots of little kids running around
so the Humming birds moved off shortly after this and I reset for nice slow moving flowers again.
