Hi fellow Avian Aficionados,
The other day we got to spend some time feeding and hanging out with a few dozen parakeets!

Parakeet Paradise
We went to the zoo the other day, here in Mass. It was a beautiful day for it! We ended up getting perfect weather, it was cloudy and not very hot so that we were able to enjoy the whole day with a jacket on but no rain. Score for the family and little man!
One of the really fun things that we got to do was spend time in the parakeet enclosure to hang out with them and feed them! When I was a kid my parents had a few parakeets and it was cute but being young, I didn't really get to appreciate them. Having this giant enclosure really made it special since we didn't need to look at them in a cage, we got to stand with them and feed them!
The little man here was really excited in it. We were walking around the zoo when we saw this thing advertising parakeets. We stopped over to see what it was about and we saw that we could go in and spend time with them! I was really shocked, I had never done something like that before and was sure that it would probably cost a bunch of money. Nope! It was free, all you had to do was pay 1$ to buy a popsicle stick with some food on it. The birds loved it but more importantly we had a lot of fun doing it! The little man was thankfully very good with the birds, he wasn't jumpy and he was initially a little hesitant and jumped when the bird landed on the stick the first time but he was very calm and had a lot of fun doing it so that was awesome.
The other thing I enjoyed was that I got Siena to come into the enclosure with us! She was originally in the “hell no” I don’t go in there boat but something swayed her to come in when she saw us having fun lol. She even held a food stick and had some birds on her which I didn’t think I would get to see lol. Was good to have a picture or two of me and the little man inside.
When we were walking up to it, I heard the birds chirping but I didn't know how many birds there specifically were. Was I surprised to figure out that there were several dozen of them!
The little man got to enjoy feeding the birds quite a bit. Each stick of bird food only cost 1$ so that was a good price, worth letting him enjoy some awesome stuff. I know I definitely enjoyed holding it and feeding the birds lol
When I was watching him feed the birds on the ground there was one bird that decided my shoe smelled pretty good so he would have a taste. He likes it so seemed to fall over some of his buddies to give it a try! Pretty soon I had my own feeding frenzy right at my feet lol. It was pretty funny and the person overseeing the birds laughed and said she’s never seen them start to chew someone’s shoe but they are funny birds. I got a video I’ll post in a few days once I get through some of the other posts!
I think we got the little man 5 sticks of food. He was loving it! I’m glad that he got to enjoy stuff as cool as this was, I’ve never done anything like that until now so I enjoyed it a lot. It was good to get him into a space like this so he’s interacting with and touching the birds a little bit. Another little girl came in and she was hysterically crying, it was kind of sad that she was scared when she didn’t need to be. The parents had to take her out of it and the little man was confused because the birds were very gentle.
