Hello @featheredfriends @community.
I am Danaidh B posting to you from Scotland!
Thanks for having me here! :)
Today I put some food out and played Spotify’s bird noises, left my camera on record by my window whilst I made a cake and went for a nice shower whilst the kids were out for the day with their mum…
ahhh.
I got some footage of the local residents here in the massive eucalyptus blue gum tree and surrounding buildings.
I put porridge oats, walnuts and lentils out this week, popular with all the “window birds” you’re about to see.
This “Great Tit” or Parus Major flew in within about 0.9 of a second after getting frightened by the “new thing” (my camera) trying to grab a walnut nugget then flew off again within the 1.0 second. I almost bypassed it on the video it was that fast!
All of these Parus major shots were taken from a single 1.0 second frame on a video.
This little chap came along swiftly after the Great Tit.
We all know this one, the “Blue Tit” or Cyanistes caeruleus.
I just love Blue Tits, so cheeky and cute looking. I’m more than happy to feed them with anything’s suitable I can find from the kitchen, they are feisty like little ‘blue and yellow’ Robins.
“what are you looking at?”
The common “Wood Pigeon” or Columba palumbus This is actually one of my favourite birds believe it or not. I think they’re quite eloquent and pretty looking.
Lovely iridescent purple and green neck.
You can see the pigeon picks up the food and jerks forward to catch it whilst simultaneously getting the food down quicker and moving towards food faster! Clever!
They remind me of the “Congo Grey Parrot” or * Psittacus erithacus*
I really got into birds during lockdown, we had so much time to explore and so many birds to learn and see!
I am only 30 so I thought I would start young and learn and remember as many birds, names and calls etc as I could.
It’s a new hobby of mine :)
That’s all today folks!
