Treecreepers are very interesting small birds that search their prey often ants or spiders on the bark of trees and they fly to the lower part of a tree and run up the tree bark to look for their small prey. They have a very good camouflage color so they are often very difficult to find. Last weekend I had the luck that I found a treecreeper at the cementary forest and I managed to take some pictures and a video of it. Unfortunately I didn't have a tripod with me and the video is a bit shaky. But some of the pictures got really nice, eventhough the light was not really the best.
Since the treecreeper is one of the smaller birds it is also on my list of birds that I really like very much. Their inconspicuous appearance makes the hard to spot, but they are common birds here in Austria and I have to admit that I already found them on several of my photography trips. I thing it is very funny to watch how it is climbing the tree with its pretty big toes that help the bird climbing nearly every tree with barks that have cracks. Treecreepers forage on the trunks of large trees. They move up the trunk in a progression of small hops. They fly to the bottom of a tree, then climb in a spiral fashion searching for prey. Since they use this spiral way of climbing it is difficult to follow them and the best strategy is waiting for their next "round" when they dissapeared on the other side of the tree.
