The white wagtail is insect eating bird of open country, often near water and in low grass. I manged to take several pictures of this bird last year and I found it sitting on a branch probably nearly its offspring and waited to fly to the nest because it probably didn't want to expose it's location. The most conspicuous habit of this species is a near-constant tail wagging, a trait that has given the species its common name. In German the "Wagtail" is called "Bachstelze" because it likes to be near creeks and flies in a special rythm of the wings. During the time I was able to take several pictures of this bird on different locations. The first and the last picture in this post here I could take during a hiking trip where I managed to find the nest of the bird and it was bringing, flies and other insects for it's children.
The other two pictures I managed to take during a birdphotography trip in Lower Austria while I was waiting for some marsh harriers that were building a nest at the marshland and tha flew to the nest from time to time. And during the times the marsh harriers were not visible I concentrated on the the small little wagtails in the grass.
