Last night while I was downstairs with the cats and dog, Mew was sitting beside the sliding door. He was sniffing something. He sits there often so I thought it was just a normal time for him. I ignored it and still did some things until I heard him meowing and looking at outside.
My other cat Terena was right outside the sliding door, she was also facing Mew. She hates him and doesn't want to be near him so when I saw she was on the opposite side and was facing Mew, I thought "aaww they're like talking to each other or something?" so I went close to them to investigate since it was still unusual for her to be as close as that to Mew even with the screen door.
As I looked closer, between Terena and Mew (and the sliding door), there was one small black-looking thing that they seem to be looking at. It looked a bit like a rock since it was dark outside and when I realized what it was, I called @acidyo to come downstairs lol.
To help you understand better, here's a sketch of what it looks like. XD
When acid went down and looked closer, they were still not moving. The bird also doesn't seem to move so we kinda assumed it was already dead. I opened the door and being careful Mew not to come out, I was surprised to see the bird breathing and had its eyes open. I took it and checked if it was injured or anything but it didn't seem to be hurting.
Ethan was so thrilled to be sniffing a bird in my hands cos he probably thought it was for him to eat or play with. XD Mew was looking for the bird still at the door, he was probably thinking "where'd it go?????".
We tried to give it some water and it didn't do anything. His wings and legs were fine, but it just didn't move, didn't fly away either. I put it inside the basket to keep it warm and safe.
It was just laying down there and a few seconds started closing its eyes. I left it in the room without the pets. I went back to the room when it was already 5am and I could hear the outside birds chirping. At that time it was flying inside the room, like trying to find a way to go out and join its birb frens and family.
It took us some time to catch it cos it would just fly away. Like whut I thought we were friends. XD It seems like it was probably just so tired last night and sleeping so it won't fly away but now since it's already morning, it just woke up and be like a normal bird.
Once we caught it, we put it back at the same place where we found it cos it kinda looked like a kid bird and it probably would get lost or don't know how to fly yet. We made sure the cats weren't outside.
When we put it on the floor, it just flew to the wall and started chirping like calling its family or something lol. It then flew up to the neighbor's roof, stayed there for a few seconds and flew away somewhere. I thought it was just learning how to fly but it was fine anyway and released back to the wild lol.
The birds around the neighborhood
There are a LOT of them living around the neighborhood. Some of them I think even has nest on the roof cos I can here them chirping there lol. They often stay on the wires and even bully cats.
I think there are like 3 kinds of birds in the area and these black ones are the bullies - even bullies the smaller different ones.
I would even often find dead baby birds on the balcony, along with some eggshells around. I don't know if they just push these babies for being a "weaker" one or it was all just an accident but it's sad. I think I already saw like 4 of them.
The type of bird we found was a Eurasian tree sparrow. They're like rats in the sky and you will see them in the Philippines everywhere lol. We are glad the bird was not injured and just flew like nothing happened. They should also stop landing around the house cos we have cats and they are hunters and will likely kill them if given the chance. Maybe the only reason the bird was not killed by my cat yet was because Mew was there on the opposite side and she can't stand even just being 10 inches away from him and even with a door. XD So it's safe to say Mew saved it haha.
