An adorable small Lapland Longspur still with their juvenile feathers. He was flitting around when I accidentally scared him up, but eventually he settled down and went back to eating bugs. That allowed me to get a few nice shots of him. It might be a girl, I don't know. Lapland Longspurs are sexually dimorphic so later in life it is very easy to tell male from female.
These two shots have him intently searching for small bugs that are eating the seaweed on the shore. It is quite cute how fixated he is on his task. Yet he is always alert to danger and flies away when anything spooks him. As a reminder, the Inuktitut name for the Lapland Longspur is Qirniqtaaq
He noticed me when I got a little too close giving me this cute photo of him staring down the camera. It's cool how you can only see his gray juvenile feathers in this photo.
