Wiosenne spotkania z ulubieńcami i ich preferencje kulinarne
Early spring is the time when my charges come out of hiding, with more and more of them appearing every day. They do not look emaciated or undernourished, because the winters have been quite mild recently and there is no shortage of food.
Wczesna wiosna to czas, gdy moi podopieczni wychodzą z ukrycia, z dnia na dzień pojawia się ich coraz więcej. Nie wyglądają na zabiedzone, niedożywione, bo zimy ostatnio są dość lekkie i pożywienia nie brakuje.
However, what I serve them is always a temptation, because in the world of birds these are delicacies that are not available every day. I am talking primarily about nuts of all kinds and varieties, and mainly those peeled from the shell.
Jednak to co im serwuje, zawsze stanowi pokusę, bo to w świecie ptaków rarytasy, których nie ma na co dzień. Mówię przede wszystkich o orzechach wszelakiej maści i odmian, a głównie tych wyłuskanych z łupinki.

Nuts are the undisputed winner of the ranking, but there are also other delicacies, such as sunflower seeds, corn, pumpkin seeds or even meat. It all depends on the preferences of individual species.
Orzeszki to niezaprzeczalny zwycięzca rankingu, ale są i inne smakołyki np. ziarna słonecznika, kukurydzy, pestki dyni czy nawet mięso. Wszystko zależy od preferencji poszczególnych gatunków.
Turtledoves definitely prefer sunflower seeds, or possibly crushed pieces of nuts. These birds are not finches, whose beak resembles a grater, so they must receive food of the right size and consistency.
Synogarlice zdecydowanie preferują ziarna słonecznika, ewentualnie pokruszone kawałki orzechów. Te ptaki nie należą do łuszczaków, których dziób przypomina tarkę, dlatego muszą otrzymywać pokarm odpowiedniej wielkości, i w odpowiedniej konsystencji.
It is different with tits, which are predators, although they do not look like them. They will eat sunflower seeds, nuts without any size restrictions, and even meat.
Inaczej już jest u sikorek, które są drapieżnikami, choć nie wyglądają. One zjedzą nasiona słonecznika, orzeszki bez ograniczeń wielkościowych a nawet mięso.
Jackdaws, on the other hand, will eat nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds reluctantly, but they are crazy about meat and are able to kill each other over it. As soon as I bring a piece of raw or cooked poultry or other meat, a war breaks out. They fight over it without mercy. Whoever is stronger has more. That is why I have stopped feeding the birds meat, because the view is not interesting.
Kawki z kolei zjedzą orzeszki, słonecznik, pestki dyni niechętnie, ale za mięsem przepadają i są w stanie się o nie pozabijać. Gdy tylko przyniosę kawałek surowego, czy gotowanego mięsa z drobiu, czy innego, wybucha wojna. Biją się o nie bez pardonu. Kto silniejszy, ten ma więcej. Dlatego też zaprzestałem dokarmiania ptaków mięsem, bo widok jest nieciekawy.
Mallard ducks, which have appeared recently, will eat almost anything. They swallow nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, corn seeds and cabbage leaves like pelicans. They are the least picky and are basically omnivores.
Kaczki krzyżówki, które pojawiły się niedawno zjedzą niemalże wszystko. Połykają jak pelikany orzechy, słonecznik, pestki dyni, nasiona kukurydzy i liście kapusty. Są najmniej wybredne, i w zasadzie wszystkożerne.
This is the company I have during spring walks in my beloved park.
Takie właśnie mam towarzystwo podczas wiosennych spacerów po moim ukochanym parku.
