Here's some winter shots of bald eagles I discovered on my hard drive for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100
I caught this blinking bald eagle at Starved Rock state park in mid-Illinois.
Here's another shot of him blinking.
Finally a shot of him not blinking.
I was able to get a few shots of him perching in this pine tree from atop an overlook balcony looking down on the tree. In the background you can see the frozen Illinois river.
Fortunately he was comfortable and didn't fly off allowing for plenty of pictures.
Starved Rock is a great place to see the bald eagles in Illinois. They only show up during the middle of winter to fish in the river.
Here's a juvenile bald eagle flying above while it was snowing.
Here's a shot of one flying just out of camera frame. I wish I was just a bit faster on the click...
Now for a little titmouse. He has his winter pants on right now lol.
This same titmouse flew off and grabbed a sunflower seed from a feeder nearby. Starved rock has a main feeding area setup by the visitor center that is perfect for viewing lots of winter birds.
Plenty of cardinals are standing by at the feeding area.
They are waiting their turn for the feeder being puffed up in the branches.
This cardinal couldn't wait any longer for the fat squirrel to move off the feeder lol.
The dark eyed juncos are beneath the feeders eating stray seeds.
The little downy woodpeckers are eyeing the peanuts in the feeders.
Meanwhile this chickadee is busy eating snow.
Later on in the day the snowing stopped and I was able to get this bald eagle flying against the blue sky. More soon from this outing.
Happy #featheredfriday
