Hi, my dear friends!
Did I already say that I love corvids? Of course she did! And not just once! And now, when the time of fledglings has come, I want to return to this topic once again.
What is a fledgling and how does it differ from a chick?
The chick sits in the nest and is completely or partially covered with down. The chick is completely dependent on the parents. If you see a chick on the ground, look for the nest and return it there.
Who is a fledgling? This is a juvenile bird. It already knows how to walk well and does not want to be in the nest. But it still can't fly. When the fledgling is on the ground, the parents continue to take care of it.
If the fledgling is safe, do not touch it. And there is no need to return it to the nest either.
So, if we're talking about crows. The crow already looks like an adult bird and you may decide that it is an adult bird that cannot fly and therefore needs help.
But look closely at these photos. The crow fledgling has beautiful blue eyes. And most importantly, pay attention to the corners of the beak. You can see that they still have a yellowish hue like a chick's ones.
Do not try to take a crow fledgling so as not to provoke the wrath of its parents. But if it is necessary, for example, if the chick is injured or in a dangerous place, cover your head with a jacket and go! You may have to go through a few unpleasant minutes, but you will save a bird's life.
