Recientemente culmine lo que parecía un pequeño trabajo de diseño. Me contacto una señora que necesitaba vectorizar sus logos, los hizo uno de sus hijos. Los necesita para completar los requisitos de graduación de sus estudios de chef pastelero, necesita una identidad de marca, debe imprimirlos en un pendón y stikers, pero al no tener buena calidad de imagen, cada vez que lo intentaba en los comercios que brindan estos servicios, le decían que no podían hacerlo hasta que los vectorizara, por ese motivo me contacto.
From Pinterest to Vector: A Design Challenge
I recently wrapped up what seemed like a small design job. A woman contacted me needing to vectorize her logos, which were originally created by her son. She needed them to complete the requirements for her pastry chef degree. She wanted a brand identity and needed to print them on a banner and stickers, but since the image quality was poor, every print shop she went to told her they couldn't do it until they were vectorized. That's why she reached out to me.
Cuando los vi, pensé que los había hecho en Canva, pero la calidad era realmente mala, y en Canva es posible exportar en PDF con buena calidad para imprimir. Eso solo indicaba que saco las imagenes de internet, quien sabe de que pagina y creo su composición a medida que encontraba lo que le gustaba, ajustando las partes hasta obtener lo siguiente.
When I saw them, I thought they had been made in Canva, but the quality was really bad, and in Canva, you can export to PDF with good print quality. That alone indicated that she pulled the images from the internet, who knows from what site, and created her composition as she found what she liked, adjusting the parts until she got the following.
Mis esperanzas de encontrar los recursos para volver armar su logo se esfumaron rápidamente cuando descubrí que todo lo obtuvo de Pinterest. Se que muchas personas usan esta plataforma como consulta, de hecho, para mis diseños es una fuente de inspiración, pero solo eso, porque mucho de lo que este sitio contiene es plagiado, son personas que toman una imagen sin consultar, la sube como suya sin importarle la calidad.
My hopes of finding the resources to rebuild her logo quickly faded when I discovered that she got everything from Pinterest. I know many people use this platform as a reference, in fact, for my designs, it's a source of inspiration, but that's it, because a lot of what's on this site is plagiarized. People take an image without asking, upload it as their own without caring about the quality.
En Hive estamos muy acostúmbranos a cuidarnos del plagio y los derechos de autor, pero la mayoría de las personas no respetan nada de esto. Le indique si era para efectos de cumplir con compromisos académicos estaba bien que los usara, pero que si los mantendría como su marca personal debía respetar los derechos de autor, aunque al final la gran mayoría de los diseños que vemos, contiene elementos de libre uso que son tomados de otros.
In Hive, we're very used to being careful about plagiarism and copyright, but most people don't respect any of that. I told her if it was for the purpose of fulfilling academic commitments it was okay for her to use them, but that if she was going to keep them as her personal brand, she should respect the copyright, although in the end, the vast majority of the designs we see contain elements of public use that are taken from others.
La clienta me indico que deseaba todo exactamente igual, esto representa un desafío porque vectorizar sobre imágenes borrosas, es prácticamente adivinar patrones de formas y colores, pero acepte el desafío y me puse manos a la obra. Fue así como logre primero el marco circular, creando patrones de esferas brillantes con degradados dorados, hasta lograr el conjunto que ve, esto tomó la mayoria del tiempo.
The client told me she wanted everything exactly the same, this is a challenge because vectorizing blurry images is practically guessing patterns of shapes and colors, but I accepted the challenge and got to work. That's how I first achieved the circular frame, creating patterns of shiny spheres with golden gradients, until I achieved the set you see, this took most of the time.
Los arábicos también fueron otros desafio, hacerlos como formas y no líneas a fin de lograr patrones de sombras y destellos, requiero dibujarlos a mano, pero quedaron bastante bien, de hecho, la clienta manifesto estar muy contenta porque por primera vez los podía apreciar con buena calidad 🙃 😒
The Arabic script was also another challenge, making them as shapes and not lines in order to achieve patterns of shadows and highlights, I needed to draw them by hand, but they turned out pretty well, in fact, the client said she was very happy because for the first time she could appreciate them with good quality 🙃 😒
En conclusion, recomiendo que si deseas tu mismo hacer tu logo, procures las mejores imágenes, con la mejor resolución, evites a toda costa el plagio y busques ser lo mas original posible. Al final cumpli con mi deber de dar las recomendaciones de que es lo correcto y dar opciones de mejores logos, pero el cliente es el que paga y cumplimos sus requerimientos.
In conclusion, I recommend that if you want to make your own logo, try to find the best images, with the highest resolution, avoid plagiarism at all costs and try to be as original as possible. In the end, I fulfilled my duty to give the recommendations of what is correct and give options for better logos, but the customer is the one who pays and we fulfill their requirements.
