Hi community, it's been a while since I last shared my progress in my studies of design tools, the reason is that I was studying the introductory part of the Illustrator program, which included a lot of practice to get used to the use of tools that although they are also present in Photoshop, are not more frequently used as they are in Illustrator, so today I want to share with you how I've gone from less to more in the last 15 days.
Mi progreso con la vectorización en Adobe Illustrator
Saludos comunidad, ya hace bastante tiempo que no comparto mi progreso en mis estudios de herramientas para diseño, la razón es que estuve cursando la parte introductoria del programa Illustrator, que comprendió mucha práctica para acostumbrarme al uso de herramientas que aunque también están presentes en Photoshop, no son de uso mas frecuente como lo son en Illustrator, por eso hoy quiero compartirles como e ido de menos a mas en estos últimos 15 días.
For those who do not know what Illustrator is, basically it is another program developed by Adobe that has the purpose of creating vectors, images that have great resolution that can be used in different formats without losing quality as it happens to raster images or bitmaps that look pixelated when increasing their size. Vectorization has been used for many years, even many of the first 2D video games were created with this format.
The first thing that the instructor put me as an exercise was tracing, just as when a small child learns fine motor skills and must keep the dotted lines of their books to achieve manual dexterity, similarly in Illustrator it is important to have enough skill to master one of its main tools: The pen. There is no way you can't draw with this tool, you just have to achieve dexterity and fluency with it, that's why the first thing I did was strokes.
Para quien no conoce que es Illustrator, básicamente es otro programa desarrollado por Adobe que tiene como fin crear vectores, imágenes que cuentan con gran resolución que pueden ser utilizadas en distintos formatos sin perder calidad como le ocurre a las imágenes rasterizadas o mapas de bips que al aumentar su tamaño se ven pixeladas. La vectorización es utilizada desde hace muchos años, incluso muchos de los primeros videojuegos en 2D fueron creados con este formato.
Lo primero que el instructor me coloco como ejercicio fue el trazado, así como cuando un niño pequeño aprende motricidad fina y debe seguir las líneas punteadas de sus libros hasta lograr la destreza manual, de igual forma en Illustrator es importante tener destreza suficiente para poder dominar una de sus principales herramientas: La pluma. No hay forma que no puedas dibujar con este herramienta, solo debes lograr la destreza y fluidez con ella, por eso lo primero que hice fue trazos.
After much exercise with this tool, I began to use the composition of images through shapes, at first glance they seemed very simple images, everything was squares, rectangles, circles, ellipse, some with rounded corners to give smoothness to the shapes, but the idea of this exercise was to learn the position of each of the parts through the use of layers to give the depth of 2 dimensions, including even simple shadows.
Luego de mucho ejercicio con esta herramienta, comencé a utilizar la composición de imágenes a través de formas, a primera vista parecían imágenes muy sencillas, todo se trataba de cuadrados, rectangulos, circulos, elipse, algunas con esquinas redondeadas para dar suavidad a las formas, pero la idea de este ejercicio era aprender la posición de cada una de las partes a través del uso de capas para dar la profundidad de 2 dimensiones, incluyendo incluso sombras sencillas.
The instructor increased the difficulty and began to place illustrations that required a little more care and detail, especially with the use of shadows and multiple parts, but all always with closed shapes that you can color quickly. The illustrations were about Robots with several parts that their main composition was geometric figures with some lines that had to be merged with layers.
El instructor aumentó la dificultad y comenzó a colocar ilustraciones que requerían un poco mas de cuidado y detalles, en especial con el uso de la sombras y multiples partes, pero todo siempre con formas cerradas que puedes colorear rápidamente. Las ilustraciones se trataban de Robots con varias partes que su composición principal fue de figuras geométricas con algunas líneas que se debían fusionar con capas.
It was time to leave the geometric figures as the main construction tool to give way again to the pen, this meant raising the difficulty a little, but first with images not so complex but with open and closed strokes. For the open ones, the use of the capable ones was fundamental, as is the pikachu that you see below, one of the layers is a stroke of the whole contour to give the background of yellow that characterizes it, and then in other layers to make the details of the other strokes. In the case of Mario it was easier because the strokes were closed shapes that could be colored quickly.
Fue momento de dejar las figuras geométricas como principal herramienta de construcción para dar paso nuevamente a la pluma, esto significaba subir un poco la dificultad, pero primero con imagenes no tan complejas pero de trazos abiertos y cerrados. Para los abiertos el uso de las capaz fue fundamental, como es el pikachu que ven a continuación, una de las capas es un trazo de todo el contorno para dar el fondo de colocar amarillo que lo caracteriza, para luego en otras capas hacer los detalles de los demás trazos. En el caso del Mario fue mas sencillo porque los trazos fueron formas cerradas que podían colorearse rápidamente.
I knew that these illustrations were simple, I kept wondering what would be the pro level with this program, when I was about to investigate and watch some video of designers creating, the instructor told us to raise the level a little more, and set us as a task to vectorize this image of Saint Seiya.
Sabía que estas ilustraciones eran sencillas, no dejaba de preguntarme cual seria el nivel pro con este programa, cuando me disponía a investigar e ver algun video de diseñadores creando, el instructor nos dijo que subiriamos un poco mas el nivel, y nos coloco como tarea vectorizar esta imagen de Saint Seiya.
In this image the amount of strokes was bigger, I really like to work the shadows with different colors. This type of work has excited me a lot and I feel comfortable with the use of their tools, I play a little against the time it takes me to do it, for the perfectionist that I can be, so I practice because this coming Friday I will have my first evaluation and in two hours I must vectorizas what God only knows what will occur to the instructor.
En esta imagen la cantidad de trazos y capaz fue mayor, me gusta mucho trabajar las sombras con distintos colores. Este tipo de trabajos me ha emocionado mucho y me siento cómodo con el uso de sus herramientas, me juega un poco en contra el tiempo que me toma hacerlo, por lo perfeccionista que puedo llegar a ser, por eso practico porque este próximo viernes tendre mi primera evaluación y en dos horas debo vectorizas lo que dios solo sabe que se ocurrirá al instructor.
