Empecemos definiendo la palabra “Lore” que se utiliza para hablar de la historia que tiene lo que nos referimos, como estamos hablando de un videojuego, me refiero a la historia que quiere contar este juego fuera y dentro de lo que estamos jugando. Hay muchísimos juegos con historias, muy largas, cortas y hasta imprecisas, pues como en las series depende de quienes la trabajen y el objetivo de contar esas historias. Para mí personalmente me llama demasiado la atención los juegos con “Lore”, siempre me hace tener aún más ganas de jugarlo, pero eso significa que los juegos donde no haya historia ¿Son aburridos? Quiero ver lo bueno y lo malo de todos los casos.
Let's start defining the word “Lore” that is used to talk about the story that has what we are referring to, as we are talking about a video game, I mean the story that wants to tell this game outside and inside what we are playing. There are many games with stories, very long, short and even vague, as in the series depends on those who work it and the goal of telling those stories. For me personally, games with “Lore” attract my attention too much, it always makes me want to play it even more, but does that mean that games where there is no story are boring? I want to see the good and the bad of all cases.

Justo la conversación que me inspiró este post se trató sobre un juego que sufre esto: una excelente historia tan interesante que aún hay demasiadas dudas que no han resuelto porque se necesita más juegos o material para sacarla. FNAF es un juego que empezó solo para asustar, se popularizo al punto de que empezaron a contar una historia y fue tan llamativa que aparte te lograr tener un fandom que hasta le hacía juegos independientes, se obligaron a hacer juegos resolviendo esa historia. Eso es increíble, y de verdad emociona a pedir y esperar con ansias otro juego, pero cae en un detalle que siempre pasa que luego se empieza a criticar al juego por ello “huecos argumentales”.
Just the conversation that inspired this post was about a game that suffers from this: an excellent story so interesting that there are still too many doubts that have not been solved because it needs more games or material to bring it out. FNAF is a game that started just to scare, it became popular to the point that they started to tell a story and it was so striking that apart from having a fandom that even made independent games for it, they were forced to make games solving that story. That's incredible, and it really excites you to ask for and look forward to another game, but it falls into a detail that always happens and then people start to criticize the game for it “plot holes”.
Sagas como Resident Evil han caído en ello, pues como quisieron seguir la historia, pero fueron cambiando de equipo y de decisiones pues al ver cambios drásticos en lo anterior contado, la crítica es muy dura, todo solo por buscar “seguir la historia” que nos venían contando desde hace años. Algunos juegos les ha funcionado demasiado bien porque cuentan en orden todo lo que está pasando y nos dejan con ganas de más como por ejemplo “Poppy Play Time”, que, aunque se piense “este juego fue más aburrido” igual agregó “lore” a todo lo que veníamos conociendo y eso hace que no perdamos el interés.
Sagas like Resident Evil have fallen into this, because as they wanted to follow the story, but they were changing the team and decisions because when we see drastic changes in the previous story, the criticism is very harsh, all just to “follow the story” that they have been telling us for years. Some games have worked very well because they tell in order everything that is happening and leave us wanting more, for example “Poppy Play Time”, which, even if you think “this game was more boring” still added “lore” to everything we had been knowing and that makes us not lose interest.

Creo que un gran ejemplo que tengo para explicar este tipo de juegos es Silent Hill, pues por una parte si tiene un “lore” que tiene una continuidad, pero no lo explotaron de más, como hizo Resident Evil, por ejemplo, sino que Silent hizo más juegos con historias completamente diferentes, con una base, la definición que le dieron a su trama, la llevaron a otra historia para que siguiera siendo Silent Hill y no otro juego, pero aun así no tengan que a juro agarrarse de su juego anterior.

Sinceramente aquí también entraría los juegos que su lore es tan sencillo o corto que solo sale para un juego y es tan simple que es llamativo, pues de verdad a veces no hay que complicarse con una historia muy larga o llena de preguntas sino simplemente hacer algo entretenido que contó algo muy interesante y ya. Se cae mucho en los juegos que tienen muchos finales, donde de verdad es tedioso o curioso el cómo por una acción del principio el desenlace puede ser completamente inesperado.

Conozco pocos juegos como Silent Hill, es decir que son varios juegos que tienen algo que los define o los vuelva común pero aun así estén contando diferentes historias, entre los que se me ocurrió a algo parecido solo vino a mí un juego llamado “The Dark Pictures”, que es una saga de juegos simples lleno de decisiones para contar una historia de misterio y terror diferente, las historias tal vez son interesantes pero lastimosamente tanto el juego como las cinemáticas son tan aburridas que es un juego fácil de olvidar y solo sirve para los memes, que son buenos porque una particularidad del juego es que los personajes son actores que conocemos pero versión digitalizada.

No simplemente su objetivo era entretenernos, agarrar nuestro tiempo para terminar los retos que nos ponían, y la verdad eso siempre será entretenido solo que obviamente, por no tener el factor atrapante de una historia tienen más trabajo pues lo que tiene que atrapar es la jugabilidad y los reto que nos den.

Un Pacman donde simplemente no nos dicen quién es el personaje que movemos o porque matamos fantasmas, solo debemos hacerlo y buscar la manera de pasar todos los niveles así nos lo pongan cada vez más difícil. Todos los juegos tienen su reto para atraparnos, y también me gusta que a veces de un juego que nos atrapo por su “lore” luego creer otro juego que no tiene nada de historia, pero entretiene demasiado, como Fallout, que como buen juego de mundo abierto donde hay demasiadas historias por contarte, luego sacaron un juego sencillo de recolectar recursos y hacer sobrevivir gente sin una historia más allá de la que tu creas.
A Pacman where they simply do not tell us who is the character we move or why we kill ghosts, we just have to do it and find a way to pass all the levels even if they make it more and more difficult.
