One of my unknown facets is our Geek passion. Yes, I may be someone of advanced age, but I have always been attracted to technology. Proof of this is my university degree as a Systems Engineer. At the recently concluded BlockchainCon LATAM 2023, held in Lima, Peru and where we attended on behalf of Hive, in addition to our intervention as a speaker, we were fortunate to walk around the grounds of the Lima convention center to see the exhibitors.
Una de mis facetas desconocidas es nuestra pasión Geek. Sí, puedo ser alguien de edad avanzada, pero siempre me ha atraído la tecnología. Muestra de ello es mi grado universitario como Ingeniero de Sistemas. En la recientemente finalizada BlockchainCon LATAM 2023, realizada en Lima, Perú y donde asistimos en representación de Hive, además de nuestra intervención como speaker, tuvimos la fortuna de recorrer el recinto del centro de convenciones de Lima para ver a los expositores.
One of the stands was occupied by a company called "Crypto Metals Peru" and its main business is the marketing of limited mintage coins in gold and silver. They had a lot of coins on display, among which those related to the crypto world stood out. However, as a good Geek, I noticed a silver coin minted under a Disney license in 2021.
Uno de los stands era ocupado por una empresa llamada "Cripto Metales Perú" y su principal negocio es la comercialización de monedas de acuñación limitada en Oro y Plata de ley. Tenían muchísimas en exhibición dentro de las cuales destacaban las relacionadas al mundo crypto. Sin embargo, como buen Geek me fijé en una moneda de plata acuñada bajo licencia de Disney en 2021

Since I saw her on the first day of the event (June 9th) I couldn't stop thinking about her. Since I have been in HIVE everything has been working and I had never bought anything that was not necessary, with the proceeds of my savings. But arriving on that stage was a reason to celebrate because I have seen my dream of representing Hive on the Spanish-speaking stages of Latin America come true. So, I pondered and passed in front of the stand thinking: buy it or not?
Desde que la ví el primer día del evento (9 de Junio) no podía dejar de pensar en ella. Desde que me encuentro en HIVE todo ha sido trabajo y nunca me había comprado nada que no fuera absolutamente necesario, con el producto de mis ahorros. Pero llegar aquel escenario era motivo de celebración porque he visto mi sueño cumplido de representar a Hive en los escenarios hispanohablantes de latinoamérica. Así las cosas, cavilaba y pasaba frente al stand pensando: ¿la compro o no?
When I was young, I was a big money-grubber. But with maturity comes the awareness of how hard it is to earn it. So, on June 10th, as I was finishing the exhibition, I remembered the words of a mentor: "Invest in whatever you like but make sure it gives you value over time, it is one of the laws of conservation of money" So I said to myself: "This is 999 pure sterling silver and it is a special edition of only 10,000 coins minted, the only thing that can happen is that it will increase in value over time" Well, I gave myself the gift and here I share it with you.
Cuando era joven, era muy botarata con el dinero. Pero con la madurez llega la conciencia sobre lo duro que resulta ganarlo. Así las cosas, el 10 de Junio ya finalizando la exposición, recordé las palabras de un mentor: "invierte en lo que gustes, pero asegúrate que te entregue valor con el tiempo, es una de las leyes de conservación del dinero" Así que me dije: "Esto es plata de ley 999 pura y es una edición especial de solo 10.000 monedas acuñadas, lo único que puede pasar es que suba de valor con el tiempo" Bueno, me hice el regalo y aquí lo comparto.
The specimen is authenticated with the piece n° 3.703 of the lot, it is a silver circulation coin with a value of two New Zealand dollars. It is protected by a capsule of some kind of hard and resistant polymer. On the obverse is the mask of Lord Vader engraved in what I assume is some sort of relief in black. The reverse of the coin retains the mintage but the metal is seen with the effigy of the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II. What gives value in time is that it may be one of the last coins with her face, besides being a limited edition.
El ejemplar está autentificado con la pieza n° 3.703 del lote, es una moneda de plata circulación de Ley con valor de dos dólares neozelandeses. Está protegida por una cápsula de alguna clase de polímero duro y resistente. En el anverso está la máscara de Lord Vader grabada en algo que supongo algún tipo de relieve en color negro. El reverso de la moneda conserva la acuñación pero se observa el metal con la efigie de la Reina Isabel II recién fallecida. Lo que entrega valor en el tiempo es que quizás sea una de las últimas monedas con su cara, además de ser una edición limitada.
The capsule has a plastic receptacle embedded in a black hard cardboard box, with franchise fonts labeled and a certificate of authenticity affixed to the back. I the value of what was paid I reserve, I will only say that it is a higher type of sentimental value than face value, although the latter will increase over time.
La cápsula está incrustada en un receptáculo de plástico imbuido en una caja de cartón duro de color negro, con fuentes de la franquicia rotuladas y con el certificado de autenticidad pegado en el reverso. El valor de lo pagado me lo reservo, solo diré que es un tipo de valor sentimental mayor al del valor facial, aunque éste último aumente con el tiempo.
It has been a purchase to give myself a gift perhaps superfluous to some, but it has meant a lot to me. I mean, I was eleven years old when I saw chapter four "A New Hope" I would never have imagined that it would become the monstrous franchise that has marked generations of young people globally. I hope to be able to later reconvert its value for cryptocurrencies and not fiat money. It is the dream of all of us who built Web3. See you there.
Ha sido una compra para hacerme un regalo quizás superfluo para algunos, pero que ha significado mucho para mí. Es decir, tenía once años de edad cuando ví el capítulo cuatro "Una nueva esperanza" Jamás habría imaginado que se convertiría en la monstruosa franquicia que ha marcado a generaciones de jóvenes a nivel global. Espero poder reconvertir más adelante su valor por criptomonedas y no por dinero fiat. Es el sueño de todos quienes construímos en Web3. Nos leemos por allí.
