Games are not forever, yet we want them to last. Online games have longer lifespans. They depend on acceptance, the number of players, money income, and server functionality, among other factors. I have been playing Ni no Kuni since its Global release, and seeing signs of game decadence already, before even the first year, worries me and discourages players to continue inside this magical world. I wanted to share a little about my game experience in this title and talk about game cycles. When do you know you should stop playing? how to know the game won't last? do you stay or leave early? Do you sink with the captain and the ship?
Los juegos no son para siempre, pero queremos que duren. Los juegos en línea tienen una vida útil más larga. Dependen de la aceptación, la cantidad de jugadores, los ingresos de dinero y la funcionalidad del servidor, entre otros factores. He estado jugando Ni no Kuni desde su lanzamiento global, y ver signos de decadencia del juego, incluso antes del primer año, me preocupa y desalienta a los jugadores a continuar dentro de este mundo mágico. Quería compartir un poco sobre mi experiencia de juego en este título y hablar sobre los ciclos de juego. ¿Cuándo sabes que debes dejar de jugar? ¿Cómo saber que el juego no durará? te quedas o te vas temprano? ¿Te hundes con el capitán y el barco?
Ever since I watched Princess Mononoke for the first time, I fell in love with Studio Ghibli Work. It was this style of animation soft, gentle, and pretty. The food in those movies just looks delicious! and the stories stay with you. Yes, I carry Ghibli stories with me. So, when video games were developed following this now universe of creations I had to play them. Ni no Kuni was the first title, and then it came to its sequel. I loved both games; they were very traditional yet creative, and they made you feel you were part of those Ghibli movies.
Last year, I heard about a Ni no Kuni game but an MMO RPG type. I was excited to know more, yet sadly it was only available in South Korea. The company made a move and released the game worldwide at the end of April 2022, and so I became a "soul diver" and a resident of that world. I don't have much experience with MMOs, but this one was demanding. I did my best to grow in the ranks and be a worthy player. I grew up to be in the Top 10%, part of a single-digit ranked kingdom, with a combat power above 2 million.
Desde que vi La princesa Mononoke por primera vez, me enamoré de Studio Ghibli Work. Era este estilo de animación suave, gentil y bonito. ¡La comida en esas películas se ve deliciosa! y las historias se quedan contigo. Sí, llevo historias de Ghibli conmigo. Entonces, cuando los videojuegos se desarrollaron siguiendo este ahora universo de creaciones, tuve que jugarlos. Ni no Kuni fue el primer título, y luego llegó su secuela. Me encantaron ambos juegos; eran muy tradicionales pero creativos, y te hacían sentir que eras parte de esas películas de Ghibli.
El año pasado, escuché sobre un juego de Ni no Kuni pero del tipo MMO RPG. Estaba emocionado de saber más, pero lamentablemente solo estaba disponible en Corea del Sur. La compañía hizo un movimiento y lanzó el juego en todo el mundo a fines de abril de 2022, por lo que me convertí en un "buceador de almas" y residente de ese mundo. No tengo mucha experiencia con los MMO, pero este fue exigente. Hice lo mejor que pude para crecer en las filas y ser un jugador digno. Crecí para estar en el Top 10%, parte de un reino clasificado de un solo dígito, con un poder de combate superior a 2 millones.
During these 9 months, I have been part of several guilds. The first one was Earendyl which my brother and I created. That soon went nowhere because it was difficult to recruit players in a Portuguese-oriented server. Almost no one spoke Spanish or English! So it became my brother and I playing against all the bosses and dungeons. He got tired of the game dynamics soon, so I had to leave the kingdom for a better one in order to progress. I experienced 2 more kingdoms since that time in which the leaders decided to stop playing. That kind of heart broke me feeling everybody was leaving the game. Even my last kingdom, which I considered to be the last refuge of F2P players, was dissolved this past Sunday,
Durante estos 9 meses, he formado parte de varios gremios. El primero fue Earendyl, que mi hermano y yo creamos. Eso pronto no llegó a ninguna parte porque era difícil reclutar jugadores en un servidor orientado al portugués. ¡Casi nadie hablaba español o inglés! Incluso mi último reino, que consideraba el último refugio de los jugadores de F2P, se disolvió el pasado domingo.
Added to that, some news came from the company. We all saw this coming: server merging. My best friend told me that was the first sign of a dying game trying to survive. My brother gave me a big "I told you so" as he has done in the past with other games. I felt so devastated, I stopped playing for a few days thinking about what to do. A server merge indeed means fewer players, but in the case of the original Korean servers, the merge didn't kill the game and each server is highly populated. On the contrary, Asian communities are more devoted to this type of game than the rest of the world.
Sumado a eso, llegaron algunas noticias de la compañía. Todos vimos venir esto: la fusión de servidores. Mi mejor amigo me dijo que esa era la primera señal de un juego moribundo que intentaba sobrevivir. Mi hermano me dio un gran "te lo dije" como lo ha hecho en el pasado con otros juegos. Me sentí tan devastado que dejé de jugar durante unos días pensando en qué hacer. De hecho, una fusión de servidores significa menos jugadores, pero en el caso de los servidores coreanos originales, la fusión no acabó con el juego y cada servidor está muy poblado. Por el contrario, las comunidades asiáticas son más aficionadas a este tipo de juegos que el resto del mundo.
On the cons, the game is highly P2W and it increases that gap with every new update, most of the gaming is about farming to increase your combat power, the story is simple and doesn't update fast enough, events are progress-dependant meaning low CP will prevent you from obtaining the best rewards, and it is time-consuming due to certain things like field bosses and arenas only accessible during certain times of the day. On the pros I think the game has a good sense of achievement, the community events are fun and abundant, new event content arrives fast, the nostalgic Ghibli design is everywhere to enjoy, and I honestly loved playing with my kingdom the most. It was my first reason to increase in power; I wanted to help my crew be stronger and beat bosses and dungeons fasters.
En desventajas, el juego es altamente P2W y aumenta esa brecha con cada nueva actualización, la mayor parte del juego se trata de cultivar para aumentar tu poder de combate, la historia es simple y no se actualiza lo suficientemente rápido, los eventos dependen del progreso. un CP bajo le impedirá obtener las mejores recompensas, y requiere mucho tiempo debido a ciertas cosas, como los jefes de campo y las arenas, a las que solo se puede acceder durante ciertos momentos del día. En cuanto a las ventajas, creo que el juego tiene un buen sentido de logro, los eventos de la comunidad son divertidos y abundantes, el nuevo contenido de eventos llega rápidamente, el diseño nostálgico de Ghibli está en todas partes para disfrutar y, sinceramente, me encantó jugar con mi reino. Fue mi primera razón para aumentar mi poder; Quería ayudar a mi tripulación a ser más fuerte y vencer a los jefes y las mazmorras más rápido.
I guess I feel tempted to stay with the captain as the ship sinks into the ocean of oblivion, but I also know the cons are heavier than ever. So I still don't decide what to do with the mage. If the end of Ni no Kuni came before its first year, so be it. If it will survive, I might stay al little longer.
