Cable Matters, Finding Reliable Cable For Robust Connectivity

These days, even buying a USB cable feels like entering a jungle. It’s quite unknown territory where you can feel overwhelmed and confused. While these days there are commonly two types USB for smartphones which is micro USB or type C, it doesn’t just stop there. In the market, you can find keywords such as lightning, fast charger, rugged, and even down to the material that coats the cable, either nylon, kevlar, silicone, and even PVC. As a customer, we just want our device to be charged or connected yet such marketing techniques exist and it could also affect the pricing of said cable.

For example, where I am from, one of the most expensive type C cables is from Anker. It is said to be premium braided and support high speed charging. When I was on the market, I was considering getting that one because I know that brand is pretty reliable and well-known for accessories. But again, there’s also a cheapskate version of me who would choose the cheapest options possible. Who would pay more than $12 for a type C cable when you can even find $1 cable on the market?

However, since durability as well as robust connectivity is something I am looking for, I was on the market for something in the middle. I ended up getting “ transformers” cable type C from thinkplus, lenovo. I am not sure with the former price but I got it less than $3 from the actual $10 cable. This cable that you see below is made with Thermoplastic Elastomer which apparently is a more eco-friendly option than other coating cable options out there. It’s called transformers because both of the ports have transformer logos.

Personally, the cable is slightly too bulky when compared to the original Samsung charger. Considering how I tend to twist the cable, this one is pretty untwistable. It’s like the same material as hose that if you twist it, it won’t end up as poorly as the original samsung cable. When I tried charging with it, I am not sure if lightning is the word they should be using when advertising this product. It also has 480Mbps data transfer that I don’t think I’d be even using that one too.

There are certainly more well-known brands out there, but this one has been the most reasonably priced as well as serving its purpose compared to the brands out there. The pricing might be some marketing trick but it makes sense that considering the coating of the cable and the port, it should be higher than $5 when compared to brands like Robot, Oraimo and similar brands.
