「 Management simulation video game 」
It’s Tuesday, that means it’s time for Tech Tuesday!
By the way, before I show you the review of Fallout Shelter, I am going to announce the winner for 5 Hive from my previous one here and a new chance to grab 5 hive power!
This time, I’d be sponsoring another 5 hive in HP power for anyone who comments on my post and shares your favorite management simulation game and why.
The winner for the previous one is @keithtaylor who shares various productivity tools and one tool that you should check out is LanguageTool extension that is quite helpful for ESL and everyone either for spellcheck and paraphrasing. The prize has been sent using Tip tools on peakd. Yo

Now, let me get to Fallout Shelter.
I am a sucker for a management game. Although time is the only constraint I have playing them. I even have Factorio that I barely have time to play. I am definitely going to get there but the management game that caught my attention is Fallout Shelter. I remember having a friend who has the fallout shelter guy as his PFP and I was wondering who it was. So, I googled and found Fallout Shelter. It’s a game developed by Bethesda in which the gameplay is basically managing a vault in a post-apocalyptic world. The game is quite fun to play with and since I can get my focus on the wrong thing, I ended up having laser focus on this game and playing for hours and end. You’ll know why I get addicted to it fairly easily below!
I have to say that though it’s seemingly a simple management game, the graphics are quite satisfactory. I enjoyed playing this game and nowadays have it running in the background while I am doing something else. As you can see below, I am going to show you how it starts and some tips on what to do.
That is the beginning of the game and below, I already have a few vaults that I’ve been experimenting with. You will be allocated 3 vaults. So, I ended up deleting my first vault that was miserably failing.
This is my most successful vault that I started playing since yesterday. I have already sent a few of my characters into the quests. I’ll tell you why I wasn’t satisfied with this one soon.

Let me show you with the new vault!
As you can see below, there are 7 characters wanting to get inside the vault. The first thing you do is build a living quarter for them with the hammer icon and expand to build more buildings to support the vault.
Each of the characters above has something called “SPECIAL” and once you click on the character it will show their strengths and weaknesses. Knowing their strengths and weaknesses are quite important!
Such as that character above. She’s intelligent but during the first few gameplay of the game, she won’t be needed. That is because each building has a character that corresponds with the SPECIAL. For example, power management would be best for characters with more strength. These two characters have a lot more strength compared to the others. If you assign “dwellers” into their fitting room, you’d also have faster production of power, water, and food.
And while clicking on the pip list on the right side, you can click on the ribbon one to check the daily report and the objectives. While finishing the objectives, you will get caps or a suitcase that will help you in the game. Caps are the currency in this game and you’re going to need it a lot. So, make sure to finish the objectives and also send out the dwellers to explore the outside world.
Since I mentioned exploration, it’s basically sending your dwellers outside the vault by clicking and dragging them out to the open area. You can see below and click on explore to send them into an expedition. Once you’re further in the game, don’t forget to equip them with weapon and also medikit like stimpack and the anti-radiation one.
During the exploration they can collect caps, items and weapons. So, you can leave them even for days. Just make sure that they have enough health and stimpak to go with.
In this game, to increase the dwellers you can also make babies by pairing a female and male dwellers into the living quarters. They also have some cheesy lines. Example is below! After a while they’re going to make babies, the female gets pregnant and eventually will give birth in about 2-3 hours. It’s one of the way to increase the number of the dwellers early in the game.
After all these basics, you can keep expanding while also being mindful about the power, food and the water that you have above. Then, at some point in the game you will have to fight the raiders and you certainly need weapons which can be obtained through a) exploration, b) crafting, c) from the dead body of the raiders.
You can see above that you can also sell it for caps but don’t do that. Make sure every dwellers are weaponized before you can sell them.
That’s the current state of my vault.
Here are some of the tips that I gathered from when I first played this game.
- Don’t expand too fast. Make sure that you have the caps and production is quite effective.
- Assign the correct dweller to speed up the production.
- If you have a usual dweller without significant stats in either of the world “SPECIAL” send them to exploration. That is until you unlock the training room.
- Paired up high level characters with the usual dweller to make decent babies.
- Pairing is also great if you can mix their characteristics. Just make sure that they are not going to be a usual dweller with low stats.
- Once they are pregnant, strip off their suit and weapon because they always run away during raids and when something happens in the vault.
- Don’t just give anyone a suit, make sure that it corresponds to their attribute and the job they have.

Lastly, I would suggest this game in a heartbeat. It’s fun to play and has quite a complex storyline and quests once you get to a certain level in the game. On desktop, it’s also free to play on Steam with lower requirements too. So, just in case you’re looking for something new and a new management game, this one is worth checking out. And even it has been a while since it came out and hyped,it's pretty much still a relevant and fun to play game in 2023. That being said, see you next week in my tech Tuesday series again and the announcement of the winner!
