In 2008, Sean Murray, a developer working at the prestigious video game company Electronic Arts, began to feel creatively constrained in the large studio environment. Users could discover new species and vegetation on each planet, and register them with a name.
The game would feature multiplayer, which would give us the ability to interact and meet with other players.
Space and surface combat: Combat system on the surface of the planets against the species/enemies of the same. In addition, of combat between combat ships in space.
The many promises made by Sean Murray and his team generated enormous hype in the gaming community, which saw in No Man's Sky a title capable of revolutionizing the genre. The update was well received, however, there was still a long way to go to deliver what was promised.
Over time, No Man's Sky received more than forty free updates, which completely transformed the game experience. These incorporated a wide variety of improvements and content, including the introduction of ground vehicles, significant advances in visual enhancements, a full multiplayer mode, support for virtual reality and a huge diversity of flora and fauna on the planets, and finally a more detailed narrative for the game.
In 2020, I found No Man's Sky on discount on the PlayStation Store and decided to buy it. The experience I had was absolutely unique, an exploration adventure unlike any other I had experienced. I loved the space trading and combat, and was blown away by the fluidity of how you enter and exit planets, something I had never seen in a video game before, at least not without going through a loading screen. Also, the planets were simply beautiful, with an impressive diversity in their fauna and flora.
The most remarkable thing about this whole story is that Hello Games has released over forty updates completely free of charge, adding so much content that they not only delivered, but far exceeded what was originally promised. Sean Murray assured from the beginning that No Man's Sky would never have paid updates or include microtransactions or in-game purchases. This commitment to the community restored the confidence of players, who would even be happy to pay for new content in the game for the hours of fun it has given them.
In recent days, news has gone viral that No Man's Sky, a game that once garnered negative reviews on Steam, has managed to significantly rebound its reputation. It now has a mostly positive rating, reflecting the community's recognition of the Hello Games team's ongoing commitment.
