Do you know what makes every journey you embark in life special? It's the discovery you make about yourself through the people you meet.
My three-month internship has ended. It was a new journey in a very much familiar place — that's how I would call it.
Looking back, it was in January when I got officially deployed to my alma mater for my internship. It was nice to step back there carrying a different persona in me.
The anxiety and doubts I had at first in my capabilities to be able to deliver and share the knowledge and wisdom I have to the young minds who look at me five days in a week did not last long. The students welcomed me with warmth, and seeing how passionate they are to learn was a daily great motivation to me.
It was a fantastic experience! Having the chance to re-learn the stuffs I first learned as I was in the same grade level as my students.
It was amazing how such young kids reminded me how much I once enjoyed dealing with numbers in my math class before in 8th grade and how mesmerized I was the first time I've read the same literary pieces in 9th grade.
Meeting those lovely students of mine everyday felt like looking at a magical mirror that shows me daily scenes of me and my classmates in the same rooms, years back from now.
The time we shared felt short when the last week of the internship came knocking on the door. However, the warmth overpowered the bitterness of goodbyes.
In our last days there, together with my co-practice teachers, we organized simple event for our students.
We prepared games, prizes, and token of appreciation. I prepared some for my mentors as well. For the last time, we all tenderly laughed together.
And guess what? I never expected how they've also prepared presents and letters for us. Our 9th grade students even organized a boodle lunch for us.
I am so grateful and touched by their efforts. I'm honestly a sucker for letters, so whenever I received one, it always makes me want to cry or smile hard. These presents and letters will be something I will forever hold dear.
Finally, before we parted ways, we got to attended their school year end ceremony. Watching the students walk all the way to the stage and receive their awards felt heartwarming.
And to witness it alongside with my friends who were my classmates before and with our teachers filled my heart with so much happiness, nostalgia and excitement for our upcoming graduation too.
After the ceremony, we took photos with our teachers who always treated us so dearly. They also invited us to stay for dinner. As the night gets deeper, our beloved teachers shared pieces of advice and wishing us well as we continue on our final journey as students.
All I could say is that I am very grateful to meet such wonderful people in this life of mine who I get to spend golden memories with, which is something I would not trade for a different version.
