Ebony | Mixed Media Art Project

She languishes in solitude. The world contemplates, then judges her worthiness. Of picturesque beauty encompassing her ebony heritage, it matters not.

Alma stood against the wall. The jeers and liquid headed in her direction was too much to bear. She wished the granite would open up and receive her, leaving no trace of the tar permanently embedded in her skin.

She hated looking like that. Why did God make me in someone else's image? she agonized daily. If we are all supposed to look like Him according to the book, then why isn't everyone else tarred.

She crossed her arms, then lowered her head and dropped down into sorrow, crying until empty.

She couldn't return home. Her father's last words meant to degrade.

"You don't resemble anyone in my family. I knew your mother was of the streets. She railed against me. Now look what she did. I'll find out who spawned you. He should be put to death! It was done out of spit just to make me the butt of jokes in my town. And you...and you helped me prove her deceitfulness."

It was no coincidence that Alma resembled her grandmother. One who was brought to the country. Her father was told never to divulge this fact. Her grandfather visited abroad. He returned with a woman of low moral character. He sacrificed his family's good name and breeding to be with the foreigner.

They were banished from the family and the town. Her sultry eyes closed before releasing tears. Her high cheekbones. Long slender neck that glided down and settled onto high and wide shoulders. And her hair was unlike no other in her village. Smooth and silky, long past shoulder length.

She wrestled with it daily to pin it into a bun so no one would notice the difference from their curly and tangled short strands. Try as she might, she couldn't hide her difference or beauty in the strange, alluring way.

Her only option. Go abroad where attitudes were more accepting.

My approach to this particular project was to retrieve a generative art image from Deep Dream Generator to see how the program would handle the text description.
