Today I want to share with you a small repair I did not exactly to a piece of furniture but to a household appliance that fell like a glove to make my contribution to the I MADE THIS initiative.

As some of you know, my wife @zupasteleria is a pastry chef and works constantly with her mixer and the balloon whisk is one of the main tools of her day to day. This weekend that balloon had a problem when one of the rods detached from the part of the support that connects the balloon to the mixer rotor, the only one she has to make cakes. Obviously, it cannot be used with this defect because it would create problems such as the mixture coming out of the container or the balloon itself falling apart. Since there was no time to look for and buy another one, the best solution was to fix it, so I got down to work and started looking for solutions.

I started by trying a product called "La gotita" which is supposed to glue everything to everything. I recommend this product for gluing anything but metals, because after trying to repair the balloon with this glue, it did not work, as the rod came off as soon as we tested the balloon.

Fortunately, I had the definitive solution which was a metal glue called "LOCTITE" which consists of two tubes, one with a black liquid and the other with a white liquid that when mixed together form an adhesive that in the absence of air causes the metal ions to stick perfectly.

HOW I DID IT

First I prepared the work place with all the tools I might need, this is so I wouldn't have to move once I started working. Here is the list of tools I used:

• A carton of eggs
• Skewer
• 3 plastic rubber bands
• LOCTITE® metal glue

I placed myself in a place where I could work comfortably, which was on the floor. There I placed the egg carton and in one of its cavities I mixed the glue. Then, I placed half a lid of the white liquid and half a lid of the black liquid. It is important to place the same amount of each liquid to obtain better results.

Then, I mixed the liquids with the fine tip of the skewer to homogenize the glue. This is a process that must be done very well so that when placing the glue it has the best adhesion on the entire contact surface.

Next, with the same skewer I placed the glue in the hole of the balloon support using the fine tip so that it entered well as well as I placed the glue in the part of the rod that is inserted into that hole.

Once this was done, I inserted the rod into the hole using enough pressure to hold it in place and ensure that it would not come out.

Just in case, I put 3 plastic bands to put pressure on it and prevent the rod from coming loose.

Finally, I let it rest for about 15 minutes in the open air. It should be noted that the instructions indicate that the glue must rest for at least 10 minutes to dry and that 24 hours later the glue will be fully cured.

In this context, we did the test about 2 hours after the glue dried, which was a success. In fact, below you will see the cake my wife made by whipping up a lot of cream cheese frosting after making this repair to this balloon that was as good as new.

My wife was very happy and grateful with this work and for me it was a very satisfying process with which I feel happy to be able to help her to make her beautiful cakes and by the way, to be able to publish it in this community.

Hoy quiero compartirles una pequeña reparación que le hice no precisamente a un mueble sino a un electrodoméstico el cual cayó como anillo al dedo para realizar mi aporte a la iniciativa ESTO LO HICE YO.

Como alguno de ustedes saben, mi esposa @zupasteleria es repostera y trabaja constantemente con su batidora y el globo para batir es una de las herramientas principales de su día a día. Este fin de semana ese globo tuvo un problema al desprenderse una de las varillas de la parte del soporte que une el globo al rotor de la batidora, la única que tiene para hacer las tortas. Obviamente, no se puede usar así con ese defecto porque crearía problemas como por ejemplo que la mezcla se salga del envase o que el mismo globo se termine de desarmar. Como no había tiempo para buscar y comprar otro la mejor solución fue arreglarlo, por lo tanto me puse manos a las obras y comencé a buscar soluciones.

Comencé probando con un producto llamado “La gotita” que se supone pega de todo con todo. Producto que recomiendo para pegar cualquier otra cosa menos metales, ya que luego de intentar reparar el globo, con este pegamento, no funcionó, pues la varilla se desprendió apenas pusimos a prueba el globo.

Afortunadamente, tenía por allí la solución definitiva que fue un pegamento para metales llamado “LOCTITE” que consiste en dos tubos, uno con un líquido negro y el otro con un líquido blanco que al mezclarse forman un adhesivo que en ausencia del aire ocasiona que los iones metálicos se peguen perfectamente.

COMO LO HICE

Primero, preparé el lugar de trabajo con todas las herramientas que pudiera necesitar, esto porque así no tendría que moverme una vez que comenzara a trabajar. Esta es la lista de herramientas que utilicé:
-Un cartón de huevos
-Brocheta
-3 Ligas de plástico
-Pegamento para metales LOCTITE

Me coloqué en un sitio donde pudiera trabajar cómodamente que fue en el piso. Allí coloqué el cartón de huevos y en una de sus cavidades hice la mezcla del pegamento. Luego, coloqué media tapa del líquido blanco y media tapa del líquido negro. Es importante colocar la misma cantidad de cada líquido para obtener mejores resultados.

Después, mezclé los líquidos con la punta fina de la brocheta para que se homogeneizara el pegamento. Este es un proceso que debe hacerse muy bien para que al colocar el pegamento este tenga la mejor adhesión en toda la superficie de contacto.

Seguidamente, con la misma brocheta coloqué el pegamento en el orificio del soporte del globo usando la punta fina para que entrara bien así como también coloqué el pegamento en la parte de la varilla que se inserta en dicho orificio.

Hecho esto, metí la varilla en el orificio haciendo bastante presión para que quede fijo y garantizar que no se desprenda.

Por si acaso le coloqué 3 ligas plásticas para hacer presión y evitar que la varilla se soltara.

Finalmente, lo dejé reposar durante unos 15 minutos al aire libre. Cabe destacar que en las instrucciones indica que deben ser mínimo 10 minutos de reposo para que seque el pegamento y que 24 horas después el pegamento estará totalmente curado.

En este contexto, la prueba la hicimos unas 2 horas después que se secó el pegamento, lo fue todo un éxito. De hecho, más adelante podrán ver la torta que hizo mi esposa al de batir mucho frosting de queso crema después de hacer esta reparación al este globo que quedó como nuevo.

Mi esposa quedó muy feliz y agradecida con este trabajo y para mi fue un proceso muy satisfactorio con el cual me siento contento al poder ayudarle a realizar sus hermosas tortas y de paso, al poder publicarlo en esta comunidad.
