OK so it's not a real ray gun! I've been fascinated by another lightpainter, Denis Smith (not on Hive) and his technique of having a single stripe of light running through the shot and it's a puzzle as to how he created it. Over the years, when learning how to lightpaint, I've seen a technique where I've wondered how in the heck it was done and when I work it out, I modify it or develop it further if possible.
Not much stuff I've seen lately in the lightpainting community has surprised me now I've worked out most of the techniques. I've also found that some of the stuff I've created has been copied too but it's common amongst lightpainters not to reveal how a shot was done! Tonight's post is one such image; I'm not going to reveal this shot was created!
Neil's got a new Ray Gun!
Out with @neilru75 this evening in my local woods where I've recce'd in daylight this uniform line of trees in a plantation of pines. I've been on the lookout for such a uniform line for ages knowing what I could get in the dark. As the evening progressed, we got quite a few "keeper" shots between us then at the end of the evening I had a brain wave and created this ray gun beam!
Behind the scenes shot
Neil wanted to get a torch beam shot which I've done before so I set up my camera behind his tripod and glanced a small LED panel across the scene gelled blue to light up his camera.
If you go down to the woods today....
This was one of the first shots of the evening just setting up the lights. Here I've used a warmer white balance value of 7500 Kelvin. Still looks a bit creepy in these woods....
I got quite a few more shots this evening which I'm quite pleased with and I'll leave those for another post!
