As technology and knowledge continue to advance, the need for better security both physically and online keeps getting high. These days, when the matter of security is mentioned, almost everyone has a word or two to give as advice.
The question that skips the subject remains, are the people getting hacked online or getting robbed in a bad neighborhood unaware of the insecurities present in the world? Is it negligence then? or are the hackers or thieves just too good for the common folks?

Before I answer these questions or give you the chance to ponder, let's look at our security apparatus. Most security systems both physical and online go through a strict vulnerability test, and training for law enforcers.
For instance, our social media accounts, and the owners of such sites spend a tonne of money on penetration testers, and the database is constantly scrutinized for vulnerability.
Physically, our law enforcement agencies get information daily regarding security and relay this to the public warning them of the different dangers as they unfold.
Despite these warnings which I must add are sometimes ignored by the public, crime both cyber and physical on the high.
Although new methods of crime will continue to be unveiled it comes down to us the common folks to arm ourselves with the knowledge that is made more available by the jet age.
I think everyone is aware of the security challenges especially when a victim becomes evidence. I also think people neglect a lot of things as far as their security goes.
Last week, for instance, a colleague of mine posted almost her every move on her Facebook, stuff like at the cinema now, just leaving the cinema, heading home, home, at last, dinner now. These were videos and pictures sometimes.
I am not against posting and the freedom of doing it, but this is a security risk here as a bad person could easily deduct her itinerary just by viewing her status on Facebook.
So, yes negligence is a part of it. The hackers and thieves have gotten smarter too, taking time to gather digital information of their intending victims who are unaware of course.
We can’t stop all the black hats out there but we can learn from the mistakes of others and take active measures to secure ourselves both physically and online.
The security topic for us Hivians should be a recurrent thing and reminders should be made because of the rate at which users of the blockchain lose their keys, due to several reasons ranging from poor storage to entering details on malicious web pages.
Our daily activities on the blockchain involve keys and passwords and so online security should be more than just a topic but a practice. Good security practices translate to a low case of these key loses and compromises.
Storing keys offline is the best as far as I know. Yeah, the internet made things easy for us all, online banking and all that digital money thing. But it is also highly vulnerable as one compromise could affect millions of users and in turn accounts.
I would end by saying that the more attention one pays to security the more he becomes aware of the vulnerabilities he faces. Post pictures yeah, but be security conscious so that you do not unintentionally give out your itinerary to potential burglaries.
Also, be mindful of your clipboards as it has been compromised before as other phone users reports. So, take note not to copy sensitive stuff like logins and credit card detail, or you might just be making someone else’s day.
