We arrived on the other side of the world about a day after leaving Brisbane.
While I managed to get a few hours of sleep, in chunks (thanks to a sleep meditation that was available on the plane's "music" options), I was still tired when we arrived.
It was a different sort of tired than I experience at home.
This was tired due to crossing multiple timezones and the body thinking I should be sound asleep when it was the middle of the day and the sun was up.
It was also the tired that comes from sitting in a seat for a prolonged period of time. (Though a 32' seat is sooooo much better than the 29' ones we were in one out last international trip!)
I'm sure it's also the kind of tired that comes from being inside, in air-conditioning, under artificial light, with no fresh air for about 28 hours straight.
I've never loved my home - with windows I can open, and grass for my bare feet only metres away - more than I do now.
But we made it! And after stepping out into the drizzly cold, and putting my bare feet on the wonderful earth that's so easy to take for granted, we walked into the hotel foyer and checked in here in Copenhagen.
Then the game was to see how long we could stay awake (without biting each other's head off).
I lasted til 7 pm, which is pretty impressive thinking about the ultra marathon we'd just done.
I expected to sleep right through til the sun came streaming in the cracks above the curtains but at 2 am I was suddenly wide awake. Only, I didn't realise it was that early - I felt so awake I assumed I'd had enough sleep.
It was only after lying in bed trying to stay quiet so as to not wake the sleeping mister that I snuck out to look at my watch. There was no way I would last til 8 am for breakfast (at our planned cafe) if I let myself stay awake.
So I did a trick I use to fall asleep again, and within minutes I was sound asleep again. I (gratefully) slept right through til I heard the crackle of snack wrappers at about 5:45 am.
I. Felt. So. Much. Better.
Groggy? Sure. But slept!
Which meant it was time to explore this wonderful city I'd heard so much about.
(If I can manage another post tomorrow, I'll see about sharing some of the too many photos I took today.)
