I'm just getting sick and tired of mis-information, and bad information, and missing information, and inaccurate information and "fake news" and God knows what else.
To be perfectly blunt, I don't care whether it's deliberate or the result of something else.
But I do Wonder...
Did this all just arise out of the fact that we have ended in a place where there's a plethora of information, but because there's so much of it, we have lower and lower expectations as to its veracity? Does anyone really give a shit anymore, or have we just become acceptant of this maelstrom of garbage because we have neither the time nor the resources to double check every freakin' little detail? So we end up with word soup... with some images thrown in, as garnish.
"Yeah, but they are just really busy!"
Have you ever uttered a phrase like that, as an excuse or justification rationalization?
Just GET IT RIGHT!
I'm trying to look at the weather this morning so I bring up my local weather station on Wunderground which is nifty because there's a reporting station just half a mile away. But when I try to bring up the radar map to see if rain is on the way, it switches to center on a location 120 miles away.
No, WRONG!
So I switch to a weather station about two miles from here, from where I can bring up the local radar image.
Did somebody just not check their work?
I've actually reported this issue four times over the past 18 months or so, but the problem persists.
"Yeah, but they are just really busy!"
Seriously? I don't give a flying flip. Even if that statement is true. And likely, that statement is true.
It's true, because everyone from your neighbor to amazon.com is trying to manage more shyte on their respective "plates" than actually should be there, under any figment of anyone's imagination!
The consequence — quite naturally — becomes mistakes, and the sheer volume of "everything" has grown to the point where we have all become increasingly "tolerant" of mistakes (perhaps out of sheer practical necessity)... to the point where most of them slide by because we simply can't find the time/energy to make those mistakes actionable.
Meanwhile, because we're so snowed under by the sheer volume of junk we have to parse, those with less than honorable intent can create "fake news" with the knowledge that we won't double check it, and — in our state of frustration — will react emotionally to it, rather than actually do some digging and verify that we've just been served a steaming hot bowl of bullshit.
I'm not immune. I have more to-do list than I have me to address that to-do list. But I don't endlessly promote or forward complete tripe to everyone I know, accompanied by panicked "The sky's falling!" messages.
Bottom line, though, is that we so often spend a lot of our time in a state of feeling overwhelmed and on the edge of exhaustion because we just have too much that 'must' be done." Or maybe it's just information overload, combined with the fact that we're having to spend more time than ever verifying and researching virtually every piece of information we come across because it has become less and less reliable and... well...accurate.
Meanwhile, it's far from "morning" anymore... somewhat due to the above outlined reasons keeping me from having a few contiguous minutes to sit down and write out some thoughts...
It's a vicious circle...
