Saludos, hivers. Hace un par de días escribí el primer artículo de una serie de tres sobre mis reflexiones de las diferentes etapas de la vida del ser humano. Las he desglosado así: La edad de la inocencia, que fue el primer artículo; el segundo, que viene a continuación, la edad temeraria, intentaré reflexionar sobre esa época o etapa donde nos creemos invulnerables y no le tenemos miedo a nada, o casi nada.
La edad temeraria
Hace poco recordé una conversación con mi padre en la cual me decía que cuando uno es muchacho uno no le tiene miedo a nada, o no es consciente de los peligros a los que se expone, porque esa es, según sus palabras, “la edad temeraria”. Esa conversación con mi padre la tuve hace mucho tiempo, y siempre tengo en cuenta esas palabras.
Ahora que ya pasé esa etapa, recuerdo muchas de las cosas que hice cuando era un adolescente, y son cosas que no haría a estas alturas de mi vida. Pero además, es una de las etapas más felices que cualquier persona puede vivir.
Durante la adolescencia y la adultez temprana se viven las emociones de forma más intensa, es la etapa donde uno quiere encajar y tener amigos y pertenecer a algún grupo. Todos hemos hecho cosas de las que tal vez nos arrepentimos precisamente por esto.

No sé si les ha pasado que, cuando recuerdan algunas de esas cosas que ustedes no harían en estos momentos, se dicen a sí mismos: “qué loco, yo nunca volvería a hacer aquello”. Éramos arriesgados, intrépidos, y hasta lanzados. Había quienes no tenían miedo de declararle su amor a la persona que le gustaba; otros no tenían miedo de andar en una bicicleta sin miedo, o cruzar una avenida con los carros cerca.
Mi padre me dijo aquello por algo que le conté, y se lo conté de una forma épica y rimbombante, pensando que así lo impresionaría. Pasó todo lo contrario, aunque no me regañó ni se mostró molesto, me dijo esas palabras, y añadió que las recordaría en el futuro.
Así que me encuentro aquí, pensando lo que me dijo mi padre cuando escucho las historias de mis primos y sobrinos que están en esa edad donde lo importante es pasarla bien con los amigos y compañeros de clase.

Cada vez que los aconsejo tengo en cuenta sus sentimientos. Está bien divertirse y pasarla bien, pero también es importante no dejarse llevar por la presión de grupo ni hacer nada que pueda poner en riesgo su integridad física.
Los consejos no están demás, si funcionaron conmigo, puede funcionar con ellos. Pero no puedo evitar sonreír cuando escucho algunas de sus historias, esas que cuentan con toda la epicidad que la hazaña merece.
Ser joven es todo un privilegio. Ya lo dijo el poeta cuando escribió “Juventud, divino tesoro, te has ido para no volver…” y cuando uno piensa en eso, piensa en la posibilidad de regresar para enmendar errores, o hacer las cosas que siempre quiso hacer pero que ya no se pueden porque ya no somos los mismos, y eso está bien.

The Reckless age
Greetings, Hivers. A few days ago I wrote the first of a series of three articles on my reflections on the different stages of human life. I have broken them down as follows: The Age of Innocence, which was the first article; the second, which comes next, The Reckless Age, I will try to reflect on that time or stage when we believe we are invulnerable and we are afraid of nothing or almost nothing.
The Reckless Age
I recently remembered a conversation with my father in which he told me that when you are a boy, you are not afraid of anything, or you are not aware of the dangers that you are exposing yourself to, because that is, in his words, "the reckless age. I had that conversation with my father a long time ago, and I always remember those words.
Now that I'm past that stage, I remember a lot of the things I did as a teenager, and they're things I wouldn't do at this point in my life. But on the other hand, it's one of the happiest times you can have.
In adolescence and early adulthood you experience emotions more intensely, it's the stage where you want to fit in and have friends and be part of a group. We have all done things that we may regret.

I don't know if it's ever happened to you that when you remember some of the things you wouldn't do right now, you say to yourself: "How crazy, I would never do that again. We were risk-takers, fearless, and even daredevils. There were those who were not afraid to declare their love to the person they liked; others were not afraid to ride a bicycle without fear or to cross an avenue with cars nearby.
My father told me this because of something I told him, and I told him in an epic and bombastic way, thinking it would impress him. The opposite happened, although he didn't scold me or seem upset, he told me those words and added that he would remember them in the future.
So here I am, thinking about what my father told me when I hear the stories of my cousins and nephews who are at the age where it is important to have a good time with friends and classmates.
Every time I give them advice, I keep their feelings in mind. It's okay to have fun and have a good time, but it's also important not to get carried away by peer pressure or do anything that could endanger their physical integrity.

The advice is not too much, if it worked for me, it can work for them. But I can't help but smile when I hear some of their stories, which they tell with all the epicness that the feat deserves.
To be young is a privilege. The poet said it when he wrote "Youth, divine treasure, you have gone away never to return..." and when you think about it, you think about the possibility of coming back to make amends for mistakes or to do the things you always wanted to do but can't anymore because we're not the same anymore, and that's okay.
