El día de hoy hablaré sobre una problemática que tiene décadas ocurriendo y que veo con preocupación que no hay ni el minimo esfuerzo por darle una ayuda a las personas de la tercera edad quienes pasan los últimos años de sus vidas con mucha soledad y con nostalgia, siendo niños de nuevo y necesitando el apoyo de sus familias para vivir lo que resta de vida en paz y tranquilidad, pero esto no es lo que suele suceder y es bastante triste ver que una persona mayor se encuentre necesitando salir a buscar algo de comida o para las medicinas porque el dinero de la pensión por vejez no les alcanza como sucede en mi país.

Today I will talk about a problem that has been going on for decades and that I see with concern that there is not even the slightest effort to give help to the elderly who spend the last years of their lives with much loneliness and nostalgia, But this is not what usually happens and it is quite sad to see that an elderly person needs to go out to look for food or medicine because the money from the old age pension is not enough, as it happens in my country.

In the final years of life, many elderly folks are set aside by their families. Depression, financial strain, and lack of help with medical needs can cause terrible difficulties. How can we as people, and as a society, support the elderly to combat this reality?
Las personas de la tercera edad entran en una etapa donde sus vidas van en reversa, algunos pierden habilidades producto de enfermedades como el Alzheimer o la Demencia Senil, en muchas familias se ven casos dónde los adultos mayores son olvidados y prácticamente abandonados sin la ayuda que requieren para tener salud y una vida tranquila. Le ocurrió a mi abuela materna, ella tuvo cuatro hijos, su última y única hija fue la que se encargó de vivir los últimos días de su vida junto a mis hermanos y a mi viendo cómo producto de diferentes enfermedades y la falta de una buena economía nos llevo a vivir momentos muy tristes junto a ella, los otros hijos simplemente no estuvieron presentes en su etapa final y dónde más los necesitó pero eso es algo que no me compete a mi juzgar, solo la vida puede hacerlo porque lo que el que no ama y cuida de su madre simplemente no merece nada.
Elderly people enter a stage where their lives go in reverse, some lose skills due to diseases such as Alzheimer's or Senile Dementia, in many families we see cases where the elderly are forgotten and practically abandoned without the help they need to have health and a peaceful life. It happened to my maternal grandmother, she had four children, her last and only daughter was the one who was in charge of living the last days of her life with my siblings and me seeing how the product of different diseases and the lack of a good economy led us to live very sad moments with her, the other children were simply not present in her final stage and where she needed them most but that is something that is not for me to judge, only life can do it because what the one who does not love and care for his mother simply does not deserve anything.
Mi abuela tenía una pensión que le alcanzaba para un paquete de galletas o un paquete de papel higiénico, recibió esa pensión en sus últimos días y no pudo disfrutar aunque sea de recibir algo por todo el esfuerzo y los años donde trabajo arduamente para sacar adelante a sus cuatro hijos prácticamente sola. Tuvo una vida difícil y fue muy triste que sus últimos días estuvieran llenos de miedos y de mucha desesperanza, siento que toda la situación que vivíamos en ese momento hizo que se deteriorara más rápido su salud, pero al menos no sufrió meses en un hospital y murió de una forma rápida.
My grandmother had a pension that was enough for a package of cookies or a package of toilet paper, she received that pension in her last days and could not enjoy even to receive something for all the effort and the years where she worked hard to raise her four children practically alone. She had a difficult life and it was very sad that her last days were full of fears and a lot of despair, I feel that the whole situation we were living in at that time made her health deteriorate faster, but at least she did not suffer months in a hospital and died quickly.
En cada país deberían haber lugares donde los abuelos pudieran pasar ratos de juegos y de contacto con la naturaleza, dónde se sintieran escuchados y atendidos, más que un hospicio, hablo de un lugar al aire libre, lleno de espacio y de paz para ellos disfrutar de cada día y que se sientan acompañados. Muchos de los abuelos que están solos puede ser producto de falta de apoyo familiar, falta de apoyo por parte del gobierno, falta de apoyo de instituciones que brinden un espacio para ellos y dónde puedan conocer a otros abuelos sin sentir que están siendo abandonados en ese lugar, al menos que sea para pasar un fin de semana agradable y viendo otras cosas más que las paredes de su habitación.
In every country there should be places where grandparents can spend time playing and being in contact with nature, where they feel listened to and cared for, more than a hospice, I am talking about a place in the open air, full of space and peace for them to enjoy each day and feel accompanied. Many of the grandparents who are alone may be the product of lack of family support, lack of support from the government, lack of support from institutions that provide a space for them and where they can meet other grandparents without feeling that they are being abandoned in that place, at least to spend a pleasant weekend and seeing other things than the walls of their room.
Si tuviera la posibilidad de ayudar a personas de la tercera edad me iría por la idea de crear una casa con suficiente espacio para al menos cincuenta o cien personas, dónde se pueda dar alimentación, recreación y apoyo emocional para que ellos se sientan bien al menos pasando un día diferente. Los abuelos siempre desean ser escuchados y amados por sus hijos y sus nietos, algunos podrán tener un carácter fuerte y no haber sido las mejores personas pero hay que tener empatía y poder ofrecerles algo que les haga sentir acompañados y útiles, todos los abuelos siempre quieren dedicarse a algo como sembrar plantas, leer libros, dibujar, coser, cocinar y eso es algo que les ayudaría a aumentar su estado de ánimo.
If I had the possibility to help elderly people I would go for the idea of creating a house with enough space for at least fifty or a hundred people, where they can be fed, recreated and given emotional support so that they can feel good at least spending a different day. Grandparents always want to be listened to and loved by their children and grandchildren, some may have a strong character and may not have been the best people but you have to have empathy and be able to offer them something that makes them feel accompanied and useful, all grandparents always want to do something like planting plants, reading books, drawing, sewing, cooking and that is something that would help them to increase their mood.
