There’s a popular saying“School life is fun, but exams ruin it
And honestly, many students can relate. School gives us beautiful memories laughter with friends, casual hangouts, shared dreams but the moment exams show up everything shifts. The joy quickly turns into stress anxiety, and pressure.
For me, exams were never easy. The moment an exam timetable was announced, I would feel a sudden change in my mood. My chest would feel heavy, my mind would begin racing, and sometimes I would just sit quietly, overthinking everything. I used to feel like I wasn’t prepared enough, even when I had been studying. That fear of not being “good enough” tried to creep in, especially when people around me looked so confident.
But over time, I found my way of staying motivated. I started by reminding myself of why I was in school. I had goals. I had dreams. And I knew that passing my exams was a big part of achieving them. That simple reminder became my biggest source of motivation.
I created a study routine that worked for me nothing too complicated, just a schedule that balanced reading with rest. I discovered that I could concentrate more when I gave myself breaks. So after every one or two hours of reading, I would pause, relax, stretch, take water or a light snack, then continue. It helped me avoid burnout.
I also studied both alone and in groups. Some topics made more sense when discussed with friends, while others required personal focus. During solo study times, I’d find a quiet corner and block out distractions. And during group sessions, I’d explain things to others, which helped me remember better.
Rest was also something I took seriously. I didn’t force myself to study all night. If my body needed to sleep, I slept. No topic is worth losing your health over. I learned to respect my body’s limits, and surprisingly, I retained more when I was well-rested.
Another thing that kept me going was staying away from unnecessary pressure. During exam season, I avoided comparing myself to others. Everyone has a different pace and method. I learned to trust my own process. I stayed focused on my materials, my understanding, and my preparation.
After each paper, I celebrated small wins. Whether it went well or not, I gave myself credit for showing up and doing my best. I treated myself to little things a snack, a walk or just a moment of peace. It helped me stay positive throughout the exam period.
Exams may never be fun, but I’ve come to realize that they build strength discipline and resilience. And as hard as they seem they are temporary. What matters is staying consistent, staying calm, and believing in yourself. You’ve come this far, and that in itself is something to be proud of.
So now, I take exams as just another step in the journey not the end, not the enemy just a hurdle I can always cross, one paper at a time
