Willkommen zum heutigen Upland Update!
Es hat gleich zweimal Kaboom gemacht. Zunächst ist die Ankündigung seitens Unity betreffend bevorstehender Änderungen der Geschäftsbedingungen und des Preismodells vor allem in Entwicklerkreisen wie eine Bombe eingeschlagen, dann hat es auch in Upland Kaboom gemacht - zum Glück Letzteres im positiven Sinn.

It did Kaboom twice. First, the announcement by Unity regarding upcoming changes to the terms of service and pricing model hit the developer community like a bombshell. Then, there was also a Kaboom in Upland - luckily, in a positive sense.

Die Unity Krise
- Unity Technologies hat vor kurzem mit der Ankündigung neuer Geschäftsbedingungen und eines neuen Preismodells für die Gaming Engine, das unter anderem auch eine Gebühr für jede Installation vorsieht, in der Developer-Branche für enorme Aufregung gesorgt. Es gab einen Schulterschluß vieler Entwickler - nicht nur, dass sie ihre Empörung zum Ausdruck brachten, sie kündigten auch an, Spiele nicht mehr mit Unity entwickeln zu wollen und auf andere Engines umzusteigen. Einige Developer haben sogar die Anzeigenmonetarisierung unterbunden, um die diesbezüglichen Einnahmen für Unity zu verhindern. Der Umgang mit der Community insgesamt und gewisse Dinge, die zwischenzeitlich ans Licht kamen, erschütterten das Vertrauen in Unity zusätzlich. Letztlich sah sich Unity gezwungen zurückzurudern und am Preismodell Änderungen vorzunehmen.
- Unity ist auch eine seitens Upland genutzte und eine zur Nutzung empfohlene Game Engine für Developer in Uplands Developer Programme. Es bleibt abzuwarten, wie sich das geänderte Preismodell auswirkt. https://www.upland.me/developer-program-resource

Kaboom!
- Es gibt eine neue Partnerschaft und zwar mit der Non-Profit-Organisation Kaboom!, deren Anliegen es ist, dass jedes Kind Zugang zu einem sicheren und ansprechend gestalteten Ort zum Spielen haben soll. Es geht um Gerechtigkeit und um ein Angebot an entsprechendem Spielraum für Kinder.
- Durch den Kauf von Map Assets in Upland können Spieler, welche das Spielplatz-Equipment im Metaversum erwerben, einen Beitrag leisten, um die Arbeit der Organisation zu unterstützen. Im Gegenzug gibt es die ansprechenden Map Assets, die eine wahre Bereicherung der Grundstücke sind, auf denen sie platziert werden.

The Unity Crisis
- Unity Technologies recently caused a huge stir in the developer industry by announcing new terms and conditions and a new pricing model for the gaming engine, which includes a fee for each installation. Many developers came together - not only did they express their outrage, they also announced that they no longer wanted to develop games with Unity and would switch to other engines. Some developers have even stopped ad monetization to prevent Unity from generating revenue from it. The treatment of the community as a whole and certain things that came to light in the meantime further shook the trust in Unity. Ultimately, Unity was forced to backtrack and make changes to the pricing model.

Kaboom!
- There is a new partnership with the nonprofit organization Kaboom!, whose mission is to ensure that every child has access to a safe and attractive place to play. It's about justice and offering appropriate scope for children.
- By purchasing map assets in Upland, players can contribute to supporting the organization's work through the acquisition of playground equipment in the metaverse. In return, they receive attractive map assets that significantly enhance the properties on which they are placed.
