Hola amigos. El pasado 22 de diciembre en Cuba celebramos el Día del Educador, una fecha muy popular en nuestro país y que para mí tiene un gran significado, pues hace 20 años que me dedico a esta bella profesión.
Muy a tono con la fecha, la Universidad de Pinar del Río hizo sus celebraciones, para ello se desarrolló un acto cultural, por lo que hubo que vestirse bonito, un poco más de lo acostumbrado, para así, tomarnos esa foto entre amigos y que quedará para el recuerdo.
Hello friends. Last December 22 in Cuba we celebrated the Educator's Day, a very popular date in our country and that for me has a great meaning, since I have been dedicated to this beautiful profession for 20 years.
Very in tune with the date, the University of Pinar del Rio made its celebrations, for it was developed a cultural event, so we had to dress up nice, a little more than usual, so, take that picture among friends and that will remain for the memory.
En el acto se reconocieron a trabajadores y profesores, que han aportado con su labor a la educación cubana, algunos con muchos años de experiencia, maestros de maestros, con quienes estamos inmensamente agradecidos, por haber transmitido sus sapiencias durante todos estos años.
Entre los reconocidos tuvimos @moraleskatia y su esposo, a los que le otorgaron la Distinción por la Educación Cubana, además se le hizo entrega a mi querido Ariel y compañero de vida, de la Medalla José Tey, ambas distinciones se confieren a algunos docentes en Cuba, como parte del reconocimiento por sus aportes a la educación. También tuve la suerte de ser reconocido como Educador Ejemplar en la universidad, durante el finalizado año 2023, algo que me enorgullece.
The event recognized workers and teachers who have contributed with their work to Cuban education, some with many years of experience, teachers of teachers, with whom we are immensely grateful for having transmitted their wisdom over the years.
Among those recognized were @moraleskatia and her husband, who were awarded the Distinction for Cuban Education, and my dear Ariel and life partner, the José Tey Medal, both distinctions are conferred to some teachers in Cuba, as part of the recognition for their contributions to education. I was also fortunate to be recognized as Exemplary Educator at the university, during the final year 2023, something that makes me very proud.
Fue un acto muy emotivo, con buena música popular y danza, muy sencillo, pues se parece a nuestros tiempos.
Esta fecha me hizo recordar momentos vividos hace 17 o 18 años atrás, cuando me formaba como profesor y trabajaba en una Secundaria Básica del municipio Plaza, en La Habana. Pasé tres largos años de mi vida como docente en la capital de todos los cubanos.

This date made me remember moments I lived 17 or 18 years ago, when I was trained as a teacher and worked in a Basic Secondary School in the municipality of Plaza, in Havana. I spent three long years of my life as a teacher in the capital of all Cubans.
Este pedazo de cartón, con pequeñas notas escritas por todas partes, algunas ya borrosas por el tiempo y que hoy les muestro a todos ustedes, es un tesoro que guardo en un lugar seguro, pues forma parte de mi colección de recuerdos de esa época y para mí, tienen un gran valor sentimental.
¡Era utilizado como un abanico en tiempo de calor! ¡Para echarse aire fresco! Le había escrito mi firma para identificarlo y también, marcado en el centro con el número 2005, año en el que nos encontrábamos.
This piece of cardboard, with little notes written all over it, some of them already blurred by time and that today I show you all, is a treasure that I keep in a safe place, because it is part of my collection of memories of that time and for me, it has a great sentimental value.
It was used as a fan in hot weather, to get some fresh air! I had written my signature on it to identify it and also, marked in the center with the number 2005, the year we were there.
¡Recuerdo, como si fuera hoy, la forma en que llegaron todos esos escritos a ese cartón! Estábamos reunidos un 27 de junio, era un lunes de la última semana del curso escolar y el último año con mi grupo de noveno grado, todos pasarían a otra enseñanza y escuela, donde muchos se separarían.
La protagonista de la iniciativa fue una de mis alumnas, llamada Mara, a quien apreciaba mucho. Sin esperarlo tomó el cartón y escribió algunas palabras para que yo la recordara, para lo que escribió: De su alumna Mara, siempre lo recordaré porque supo ser el mejor.
Esta iniciativa se hizo viral en el grupo, todos querían escribir algo, para ellos un pequeño mensaje dedicado a su profesor, pero para mí era mucho más que eso, lo entendí como un acto de gratitud y afectos por quien había dedicado tiempo en su educación y enseñanzas. Por eso, este pedazo de cartón permanecerá entre mis recuerdos mientras resista su material y yo sea consecuente de mis actos.
I remember, as if it were today, the way all those writings arrived on that cardboard! We were gathered on June 27, it was a Monday of the last week of the school year and the last year with my ninth grade group, everyone would move on to another teaching and school, where many would be separated.
The protagonist of the initiative was one of my students, named Mara, whom I appreciated very much. Without expecting it, she took the cardboard and wrote some words for me to remember her, for what she wrote: From your student Mara, I will always remember you because you knew how to be the best.
This initiative went viral in the group, everyone wanted to write something, for them a small message dedicated to their teacher, but for me it was much more than that, I understood it as an act of gratitude and affection for the one who had dedicated time in his education and teachings. Therefore, this piece of cardboard will remain among my memories as long as it resists its material and I am consistent with my actions.
Esos primeros años fueron trascendentales en mi formación como docente, siento que durante ese tiempo pude entender el significado de ser un educador, el papel que juega en la formación de las nuevas generaciones y de toda una sociedad, pues en gran medida, la cultura que hoy muestra un pueblo, es resultado del accionar de miles de ellos.
Por eso, cada 22 de diciembre me llena de alegría, pienso en los que fueron mis alumnos, también en mis profesores, en los que ya no están y que, de alguna forma, contribuyeron a mi formación ¡Les estaré eternamente agradecidos!
Como profesor, solo espero, a cambio de mis enseñanzas, muchos cartones como este, que celosamente conservo, lleno de pequeños mensajes de mis alumnos y cargado de emociones, para así, cada Día del Educador, recordarlos eternamente.
Those early years were transcendental in my training as a teacher, I feel that during that time I was able to understand the meaning of being an educator, the role it plays in the formation of new generations and of an entire society, because to a large extent, the culture that a people shows today is the result of the actions of thousands of them.
Therefore, every December 22nd fills me with joy, I think of those who were my students, also of my teachers, of those who are no longer here and who, in some way, contributed to my education, I will be eternally grateful to them!
As a teacher, I only hope, in exchange for my teachings, many cards like this one, which I jealously keep, full of little messages from my students and full of emotions, so that, every Educator's Day, I can remember them forever.
