What I learned when I was laid off from my job [ENG/ESP]

Pocas cosas en mi vida me han importado tanto como mi trabajo. El poder ser útil para la sociedad es una de las cosas que más me satisface. Solo el ser mamá y esposa se han podido colar por encima del ámbito profesional en la escala de prioridades de mi vida.

Soy periodista y amo escribir. Mi trabajo me apasiona. Pero, he ido demasiado lejos esta vez.

Tengo un trabajo como Community Manager desde hace 3 años. Como vivimos en Venezuela y mi trabajo no me da lo suficiente, empecé a buscar otras opciones. Así que, trabajé como redactora por un tiempo, hicieron recorte de personal y me despidieron.

Estuve con un solo trabajo hasta enero, cuando me contrataron como community en una agencia.

Debo decir que el marketing es un trabajo fuerte. Más cuando hay que aprenderlo de cero.

Few things in my life have mattered as much to me as my work. Being able to be useful to society is one of the things that most satisfies me. Only being a mother and a wife have been able to slip above the professional sphere in the scale of priorities in my life.

I am a journalist and I love writing. I am passionate about my work. But, I've gone too far this time.

I have had a job as a Community Manager for 3 years. Since we live in Venezuela and my job doesn't give me enough, I started looking for other options. So, I worked as a copywriter for a while, they made staff cutbacks and I got laid off.

I had only one job until January, when I was hired as a community in an agency.

I must say that marketing is a tough job. Even more so when you have to learn it from scratch.

Mi experiencia

Mirándolo en perspectiva, siento que las cosas no fluyeron por varios factores. En principio porque es un trabajo que demanda tiempo que no tenía. No en este momento, en otros periodos de mi vida, quizá, pero me acabo de mudar con mi pareja, tengo un bebé y también debo hacerme cargo de mi casa.

Era como estar pensando en muchas cosas a la vez: en resolver la vida de mis padres, en mi bebé, en hacer comida, en mi trabajo y, al final del día, en mí misma. Porque, me preocupaba por todo ¿Y quién se preocupaba por Ana?

Además, la comunicación en el equipo la sentía como trancada y llegué a un punto de frustrarme y deprimirme porque yo sabía que no estaba haciendo las cosas bien. Porque para mi, el trabajo SIEMPRE había sido una de las prioridades máximas. Pero, NO PODÍA dar todo de mí, no es que no quisiera.

Hoy me despidieron de ese trabajo y me llevo muchísimos aprendizajes.

## My experience

Looking at it in perspective, I feel that things didn't flow for several reasons. First of all because it's a job that demands time that I didn't have. Not at this time, in other periods of my life, maybe, but I just moved in with my partner, I have a baby and I also have to take care of my house.

It was like I was thinking about so many things at once: figuring out my parents' life, my baby, making food, my job, and at the end of the day, myself. Because, I was worrying about everything and who was worrying about Ana?

Also, the communication in the team felt like it was stuck and I got to a point of getting frustrated and depressed because I knew I wasn't doing things right. Because for me, work had ALWAYS been a top priority. But, I COULDN'T give it my all, not that I didn't want to.

Today I was fired from that job and I have learned a lot.

No seas kamikaze

Aprendí que no puedo aceptar más trabajo del que puedo hacer. Que soy solo yo la que pone mis límites y mi tiempo.

Debo saber administrarlo y ordenarlo. Aceptar que ya no tengo el mismo tiempo de antes y dejar de diluirme en cosas, porque me ha costado aprender que yo NO PUEDO SALVAR AL MUNDO.

Además, ahora sé muchas otras cosas de marketing que antes no sabía y eso es un plus que puedo aprovechar para avanzar.

Estoy triste porque necesitaba el dinero, pero feliz porque gané conocimientos.

## Don't be a kamikaze

I learned that I can't take on more work than I can do. That I am the only one who sets my limits and my time.

I must know how to manage and order it. Accept that I don't have the same amount of time as before and stop diluting myself in things, because it has cost me to learn that I CANNOT SAVE THE WORLD.

Also, I now know a lot of other things about marketing that I didn't know before and that is a plus that I can leverage to move forward.

I am sad because I needed the money, but happy because I gained knowledge.
