Hello dear community
I decided to write about my serious motorcycle accident on March 17th in Guatemala at Lake Atitlan. At first I started to post but then didn't continue because I wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but now I think it will help me process everything.
These are the pictures from the accident site. It's just past San Juan. I've just returned from a motorcycle tour, which I've been doing every Sunday for about 2 years, because I organize motorcycle tours for people who want to explore the area but don't know their way around or don't want to ride alone, because it's always safer in a group than traveling alone.
I have attached some x-rays of my left leg and some pictures of the injuries that the doctor in the hospital in Guatemala provided me with.
here the broken thigh
thigh after inserting the splint and nails
cracked pelvis
shattered foot
fall wires in the foot for stabilization
That turned out to be a good thing, because that Sunday I had a serious motorcycle accident. A 21-year-old local tried to overtake a car on a bend, lost control of his motorcycle and drove into me. I fell and was seriously injured. My foot was almost severed from my leg, my shinbone was broken and so was my thigh. All of this on my left leg. My right hip was also broken and on both hands the ring finger of the left hand and the middle finger of the right hand were broken.
A friend who had come with me immediately organized the rescue team and made sure that I was transported to a private hospital in Panajachel, first by ambulance to the pier in San Juan, from there across the lake to Panajachel and from there by ambulance to the private hospital.
open foot
thigh fracture
there was a lot of dirt in the wounds the doctors needed 2 operations to clean it you can see earth leaves and other things in the wounds
On the way there I lost about 6.5 liters of blood and was close to death. But I was lucky, the universe had other plans for me and I survived. I was badly injured, but I'm alive.
You'll find out more about it in the next post. There I'll describe how I woke up in the hospital, how I felt shortly after the accident and how much the time in the hospital and afterwards cost me.
