Anoche, mientras esperábamos el anuncio de los resultados en las elecciones de nuestro país, nos dimos el permiso para ver un largometraje. Last night, while we were waiting for the announcement of the results of our country's elections, we gave ourselves permission to watch a feature film. In reviewing the options, as providence would have it, we turned our attention to a historical film called “The Darkest Hours.” In essence, it deals with a period in Winston Churchill's life from the incidental appointment as Prime Minister of Great Britain, to the completion of Operation Dynamo in which the British worked together to remove over 300,000 men from the beaches of Dunkirk, north of invaded France.
To give context, Churchill was a man execrated by the Lords, after several setbacks or botched operations planned from the naval admiralty. And his appointment as Prime Minister was only possible because he was the only man that the opposition to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain would accept at the head of the government (given, precisely, the rejection of his party colleagues). A Maria Corina, la gente le empezó aceptar cuando concentró sus energías desde el andar buscando la aprobación de sus pares, hasta la conexión necesaria de un político con su pueblo. Lo demás ha sido historia. Comenzó a crecer una esperanza alrededor de María Corina Machado, mayor que la vista desde que el fallido ex-coronel, se hizo candidato. Y esto se palpó de manera brillante en la campaña para las elecciones presidenciales culminadas anoche, a pesar de los evidentes obstáculos colocados en el camino.

The rest has been history. A hope began to grow around María Corina Machado, greater than the one seen since the failed ex-colonel became a candidate. And this was brilliantly felt in the presidential election campaign that culminated last night, in spite of the obvious obstacles placed in the way.
Y es la misma esperanza existente hoy lunes en la mañana, luego de consumado lo esperado por su equipo y la mayoría de quienes sabemos como juegan a la democracia, aquellas personas quienes no han sabido leer el momento histórico por el que atraviesa nuestro país. "Las horas más oscuras" lo que demuestra en esencia, es la resiliencia de un pueblo dispuesto a morir si la bota alemana se atrevía a pisar suelo inglés, según el encuentro de Churchill con la gente de a pie en el subterráneo. Y quienes piensen no hay paralelismos entre la resiliencia de aquellos británicos con la del pueblo venezolano, comenten un grave error. Así ha sido demostrado a través de la historia.
Nadie tiene una bola de cristal para saber como derivarán los hechos desarrollados hasta el momento. Pero algo es cierto: la voluntad de ser libres es una fuerza increíblemente poderosa. Lo evidenciaron los alemanes al derrumbar el muro de Berlín, lo demostró el pueblo de Rumanía al salir del dictador Nicolae Ceaucescu y lo reafirmaron nuestros abuelos al no aceptar los resultados de las elecciones del 15 de Diciembre de 1.957.
