Imagine waking up on a Friday morning ready to go out to do your grocery shopping for the weekend and when you check your bank account a few seconds before going out to the street you find that you only have three cents. Well, that happened to me this Friday with my bank, which had a problem with the instant payment system that the national banks in Venezuela have. I had my full paycheck and my mother's paycheck ready for shopping and I woke up with nothing in my account.
For those who do not know, banks in Venezuela have an instant payment system that allows sending money between different banks without having to wait 24 hours for it to be processed. This method is called mobile payment and works by using the basic data of the person, the cell phone number, the identity card number and finally indicate which is the destination bank.

Because the bank where my paycheck is deposited has a damaged debit card, I move all that money and the money from my mother's paycheck to another bank using this instant transfer method. Just on Friday that target bank had a problem with this instant transfer system and discounted all their customers the money received through the mobile payment. To my bad luck all the money I had was received using this method and hence the problem of having my account at almost zero.
I had to cancel my shopping plans and run to the bank to get in line to see if I could talk to the bank staff to find out what had happened to my money. One of my fears was that I would have my account blocked for exceeding the limit for receiving money, since my account is a savings account and its limits are smaller than checking accounts. Although thinking about it coldly now it doesn't make sense that a block for exceeding limits would deduct money from the account, but I was in shock at that moment running to get to the bank.

When I arrived at the bank I noticed that there was not much of a queue and I only had to write my name on a sheet of paper to wait my turn. After five minutes I started talking to a lady who was also sitting there waiting and she told me that the problem with the mobile payment system was a general problem throughout the bank, that she had heard the staff say that the only thing we had to do was wait for the refund. Just when she finished telling me that a man approached the bank manager and I heard him say that it was a platform problem, so I got up and approached him to ask if it was the same problem I was having and the manager confirmed what the lady had said.
I admit that on one hand I was a little calmer knowing that it was not just my problem, but on the other hand I was angry, since the manager used as an excuse that it was a failure in the platform of the instant payment system, but curiously only his bank was affected with this problem. All banks in the country have the same instant payment system built into their platform, but only this bank had that incident which made me think that the problem was actually the bank's platform.

The most worrying thing of all is that they did not make any official announcement on their social networks and it was the weekend when banks do not work in person at their offices. Not to mention that the generic response from the manager saying that during the course of the day the money would be restored was not very encouraging. Thinking that the problem was going to extend all weekend I decided to take the money I had destined to pay for the internet and solve the weekend purchases while I waited for a solution from the bank.
This whole problem I am telling you about started at nine o'clock in the morning, between the queue at the bank and the purchases, I finished everything around noon. In the end the bank complied and by one o'clock in the afternoon all the money was back in the customers' accounts. Checking Twitter I saw that some people were still having problems using the debit cards and the mobile payment system, but in general let's say that the emergency was over.

I can say that I was very lucky because I had money in another bank, but imagine the people who only had the money they had in that bank where they had an emergency that day and needed the money immediately, they enter the account to see that they have nothing. That is to go crazy! and the worst thing is the response of the bank, waiting for the system to return the money and that's it. No apologies, no compensation, no nothing.
In a country where inflation is practically rising daily, a bank makes a mistake so serious that it leaves its customers without money and all it says is to wait patiently for the return of the money that they are already working on correcting the error in the system. I don't know how it is in your countries, but I think these crazy problems are only seen in Latin countries, especially how relaxed they are when it comes to explaining to their customers. What a helplessness you feel with the customer service we have in the country.

It is important to mention that the bank that was affected by this problem is a private bank and is the largest entity at the national level, it is one of the banks with the most clients in the country. Not even for being a private company can one be saved from bad service and poor attention to customers. As I say, I was lucky and the truth is that I can't complain too much, in the end I managed to make part of the purchases in addition to replacing the money I had taken from the internet payment. While I was finishing this writing I paid my internet bill.
As a final lesson I would recommend having more than one bank account and always make sure you have your capital spread over several banks. As the situation of the country is, you never know when a bank may fail and you end up running out of money, even temporarily. Who would have thought, in essence the popular saying is right, we should not have all our eggs in one basket.

Imagina despertar un viernes por la mañana listo para salir a realizar tus compras de provisiones para el fin de semana y al consultar tu cuenta de banco unos segundos antes de salir a la calle te encuentras que solo tienes tres centavos. Pues eso me paso a mi este viernes con mi banco que tuvo un problema con el sistema de pago instantáneo que poseen los bancos nacionales en Venezuela. Tenía mi sueldo completo junto con el de mi madre preparado para las compras y desperté sin nada en la cuenta.
Para quien no sepa los bancos en Venezuela tienen un sistema de pago instantáneo que permite enviar dinero entre distintas entidades bancarias sin tener que esperar 24 horas para que se procese. Este método se llama pago móvil y funcionan utilizando los datos básicos de la persona, el número de teléfono móvil, el número del documento de identidad y por último indicar cual es el banco destino.

Debido a que el banco donde se me deposita mi sueldo tengo la tarjeta de débito dañada, yo muevo todo ese dinero y el dinero del cobro de mi madre a otro banco utilizando este método de transferencia instantánea. Justamente el viernes ese banco destino tuvo un problema con ese sistema de envío instantáneo y descontó a todos sus clientes el dinero recibido mediante el pago móvil. Para mi mala suerte todo el dinero que tenía lo recibí utilizando ese método y de ahí el problema de quedarme con la cuenta en casi cero.
Me tocó cancelar los planes de compras e ir corriendo al banco para realizar la cola y ver si podía hablar con el personal de la entidad bancaria para consultar qué había pasado con mi dinero. Uno de mis temores era que tuviera un bloqueo de cuenta por superar el límite de recepción de dinero, ya que mi cuenta es de ahorros y sus límites son más pequeños que las cuentas corrientes. Aunque pensándolo fríamente ahora no tiene sentido que un bloqueo por superar límites descuente el dinero de la cuenta, pero yo en ese momento estaba en shock corriendo para llegar al banco.

Al llegar al banco me di cuenta que no había mucha cola y solo tenía que anotar mi nombre en una hoja para esperar mi turno. Pasados cinco minutos me puse hablar con una señora que estaba también sentada esperando y me comentó que el problema del sistema del pago móvil era a nivel general en todo el banco, que había escuchado al personal decir que lo único que teníamos que hacer era esperar la devolución. Justo cuando ella terminó de decirme eso un señor se acercó al gerente del banco y escuché que le decía que era problema de plataforma, ahí me levanté y me acerqué para preguntar si era el mismo problema que tenía y en efecto el gerente me confirmó lo que había dicho la señora.
Admito que por un lado estaba un poco más tranquilo sabiendo que no era un problema solo mío, pero por otro lado tenía enfado, ya que el gerente usaba como excusa que era una falla en la plataforma del sistema de pago instantáneo, pero curiosamente solo su banco se vio afectado con este problema. Todos los bancos del país tienen el mismo sistema de pago instantáneo incorporado en su plataforma, pero solo este banco tuvo ese incidente lo que me hizo pensar que el problema era en realidad la plataforma del banco.

Lo más preocupante de todo es que no hacían ningún anuncio oficial en sus redes sociales y se venía el fin de semana donde los bancos no trabajan de forma presencial en las oficinas. Eso por no mencionar que la respuesta genérica del gerente diciendo que en el transcurso del día se repone el dinero no era muy alentadora. Pensando en que el problema se iba extender todo el fin de semana decidí tomar el dinero que tenía destinado para el pago del internet y resolver las compras del fin de semana mientras esperaba por una solución de parte del banco. menos mal que tenía ese dinero en otra entidad bancaria.
Todo este problema que estoy contando empezó a las nueve de la mañana, entre la cola del banco y las compras termine de hacer todo cerca del mediodía. Al final el banco cumplió y para la una de la tarde ya todo el dinero estaba de regreso en las cuentas de los clientes. Revisando Twitter vi que algunas personas aún tenían problemas usando las tarjetas de débito y el sistema de pago móvil, pero en general digamos que la emergencia ya la habían superado.

Puedo decir que conté con muchísima suerte ya que tenía dinero en otro banco, pero imagínense ustedes las personas que solo contaban con el dinero que tuvieran en esa entidad bancaria donde se les presenté una emergencia ese día y necesiten el dinero de forma inmediata, entran a cuenta para ver que no tienen nada. ¡Eso es para volverse locos! y lo peor es la respuesta del banco, esperar que el sistema retorne el dinero y ya. No hay disculpas, no hay compensación, no hay nada.
En un país donde la inflación prácticamente sube diariamente un banco realiza un error tan grave que deja a sus clientes sin dinero y lo único que dice es que esperen pacientemente el retorno del dinero que ya están trabajando en corregir el error del sistema. No sé cómo sea en sus países, pero yo creo que estos problemas locos solo se ven en países latinos, sobre todo lo relajados que son a la hora de dar explicaciones a sus clientes. Que impotencia se siente con la atención al cliente que tenemos en el país.

Importante mencionar que el banco que se vio afectado por este problema es un banco privado y es la entidad más grande a nivel nacional, es uno de los bancos con más clientes en todo el país. Ni por ser una empresa privada se salva uno del mal servicio y la mala atención a los clientes. Como digo, corrí con suerte y la verdad no puedo quejarme mucho, al final logré hacer parte de las compras además de reponer el dinero que había tomado del pago del internet. Mientras terminaba este escrito realice el pago de mi factura de internet.
Como moraleja final recomendaría tener más de una cuenta de banco y asegurarnos siempre de tener el capital repartido entre varias entidades bancarias. Cómo está la situación del país nunca se sabe cuándo un banco puede fallar y termines quedándote sin dinero, aunque sea de forma temporal. Quién lo diría, en esencia el dicho popular tiene razón, no debemos tener todos los huevos en una misma cesta.
