A los más jóvenes de aquí quizá les resulte desconocida la película “Un Día de Furia”. Es del año 1993 y protagonizada por Michael Douglas, fue muy famosa en su tiempo y dio bastante de qué hablar… Trata sobre un hombre común al que un día todo le sale mal, por donde asoma la cabeza recibe un atropello. Así que cansado de tanto maltrato decide rebelarse, no se cala más nada, toma la justicia por su mano, se convierte en una máquina de aniquilar malvivientes y la gente lo empieza a ver como el héroe de todos los que están hartos…
Tengo mucho tiempo sintiéndome como el personaje de la película y debo confesar, con preocupación, que me veo yo mismo haciendo lo que hacía él, dejando de lado el camino civilizado y emprendiéndola de la peor forma posible contra los que me tienen hastiado.
La verdad es que el asunto me preocupa, ese tipo de ideas se puede convertir en obsesión, y es bien sabido que del pensamiento a la acción la distancia puede ser muy corta. Hago todo lo posible por mantenerme alerta, pero los malos pensamientos siempre están allí, rondando, acechando, empujando... Uno nunca sabe cuándo se va a rebasar…

I have long felt like the character in the movie and I must confess, with concern, that I see myself doing what he did, leaving aside the civilized path and taking it in the worst possible way against those who have had enough of me.
The truth is that the matter worries me, that kind of ideas can turn into obsession, and it is well known that from thought to action the distance can be very short. I do my best to stay alert, but the bad thoughts are always there, hovering, lurking, pushing.... You never know when you're going to be overrun...
He dedicado una buena parte de mis sesenta y seis años a tratar de apaciguar mi espíritu, a encontrar una vida que me de paz interior. En parte lo he logrado, soy una persona espiritual, pacífica y tolerante, pero hay situaciones que parecen realmente no tener solución.
Sé que más de uno puede pensar que siempre hay salida. Yo mismo soy partidario de esa forma de pensar. Sin embargo, la realidad a veces se empeña en poner a prueba la voluntad.
Hay situaciones como el covid, que fastidian, pero que sabemos van a terminar, mañana o pasado, en algún momento quedará atrás, será un mal recuerdo de una época extraña. Incluso la pesadilla que tenemos desde hace veinte años tendrá su final, el chavismo no es eterno y nuestro país volverá a renacer de las cenizas.
Pero cómo se hace con un vecino que es un mal viviente, que no te deja descansar, que se cree el dueño del mundo y no atiende a ningún reclamo cordial y civilizado, y que de paso es mucho más joven y fuerte que tú…
Me crea un gran desánimo pensar que podrá pasar el covid, podrá caer Maduro y su combo, y lo más probable es que él siga allí, al otro lado de mi pared, importunando con sus ruidos, sus francachelas… Marcando el ritmo de cuándo puedo leer, escribir, dormir o hacer mi vida…

But how do you deal with a neighbor who is a living evil, who does not let you rest, who thinks he is the owner of the world and does not listen to any cordial and civilized complaint, and who by the way is much younger and stronger than you?
It makes me very discouraged to think that the covid may pass, Maduro and his combo may fall, and most probably he will still be there, on the other side of my wall, bothering me with his noises, his francachelas... Setting the pace of when I can read, write, sleep or make my life...
Alguien pudiera decir: ¡Hermano, múdese! Y sería muy razonable pensar eso, a veces lo he considerado, pero…siempre hay un pero… Este ha sido mi hogar durante más de treinta años, no me siento con fuerzas para empezar de cero en otro sitio. Además, ¿qué garantía tengo que en otro sitio no consiga alguien semejante? Ya no estoy para empezar un rally de mudanzas.
A estas alturas es bastante probable que haya perdido unos cuantos años de vida por la rabia y la impotencia de tener que vivir en función del ritmo que otro me marca. Me la paso cazando cualquier pequeño rato de silencio para poder hacer mis actividades, que todas requieren bastante concentración.
Mientras tanto, mientras que algo pase, me invento mis medidas de sobrevivencia: uso audífonos, me encierro en los cuartos con aparatos de aire acondicionado, me voy a caminar, medito, hago chikung… Hago todo lo que está a mi alcance para no perder la calma y la cordura. En fin…
A veces desde el fondo de mi zona oscura una impertinente lucecita se empeña en alumbrar un tétrico cartel: “En Venezuela los adultos mayores tienen trato especial, el código penal contempla que después de los setenta años se paga casa por cárcel para los delitos más graves…”
