Hey everyone, i need to vent a little since we are having some pressure as a family about a big decision we need to make about our son. He is 9 years old has autism and is considered non-verbal, regardless he knows a lot of words and extremely basic sentences, he barely communicates or express his needs.
Hola a todos, necesito desahogarme un poco ya que como familia tenemos algo de presión sobre una gran decisión que debemos tomar sobre nuestro hijo. Tiene 9 años, tiene autismo y se le considera no verbal, a pesar de que sabe muchas palabras y oraciones extremadamente básicas, apenas se comunica o expresa sus necesidades.
He is on 3rd grade of Neurotypical school (which is the proper way to refer as what everyone considers regular school), he repeated the last year of kindergarden and is probably going to repeat this one (?). Anyway having to repeat the year or not, this year i had the feeling the concepts got to text comprehension oriented or too abstract for him, he could do basic math and basic logic problems, but each year of school new content is added, new subjects. So we have to decide if he shouldnt continue next year on a Special Needs school specialized on Autism...
Está en 3er grado de la escuela Neurotipica (que es la forma correcta de referirse a lo que todos consideran escuela regular), repitió el último año de Jardin de infantes y probablemente va a repetir este (?). De todos modos teniendo que repetir el año o no, este año tuve la sensación de que los conceptos llegaron a estar orientados a la comprensión de textos o demasiado abstractos para él, podía hacer matemáticas básicas y problemas de lógica básica, pero cada año escolar se agrega contenido nuevo, asignaturas nuevas . Its a huge huge crossroads we are facing, the team that treats our son mostly agrees he isnt fully taking advantage of his current school, but the uncertainty of this new school and if it would actually help him or hinder his progress is concerning and worrying.
Es una enorme encrucijada a la que nos enfrentamos, el equipo que trata a nuestro hijo está de acuerdo en que no se está aprovechando completamente su escuela actual, pero la incertidumbre de esta escuela nueva y si realmente lo ayudaría o dificultaría su progreso es realmente preocupante.
So we have a meeting with this new school soon and we have to make the final call, in this journey you have to take it day by day but stuff like this will have a huge impact on my son future, its not something to take lightly, puts a lot of pressure on us like parents who obviously want the best for him and his development.
Así que pronto tenemos una reunión con esta nueva escuela y tenemos que hacer la llamada final, en este viaje tienes que tomarlo día a día, pero cosas como esta tendrán un gran impacto en el futuro de mi hijo, no es algo para tomar a la ligera. , nos presiona mucho como padres que obviamente quieren lo mejor para él y su desarrollo.
