The only distilled spirit in the world made from a naturally sweet flower.
Madhuca longifolia as commonly called in English. But in our region, it is termed as Mahua. A flower which is used to prepare local liqour to Carter to the poor people demand. It is a flower, so the derivatives that we get in alcohol is purely natural.
These flower grows in a big tree. In my are, there are many of them, that gives shades and also these mahua flower. You can not see these flower on tree. But the flowers keeps dropping on the surface now and then.
These flower are sold locally at Rs.80/- ($1). These flowers keep scattered all over the ground. Throughout the day. Local people keep visiting during g the differrnt time keep pocking up them one by one.
If you look at the little bunches that grows in the plant, they are thr Original home of the flower. The flowers grows in there like a grapes and then keep falling on the ground on by one. No one dare to plucks them.
The flowers are in small in size, but as it is used to make liqour, I was more curious to understand, what bring in the intoxication into these flower. I picked one , it has an odd smell, not like any flower.
I open it to see, what is there inside the flowers that brings such smell and help people to drink it. I found these little brown seeds that definatelly creates kind of intoxication to people.
Boys or aged , many local keep collecting them, one by one. But the real owner is the one who planted the tree or whose plot the tree grows up. Many people keep coming in early wee hours to collect them.
The liqour making process is also too easy. What I learnt is that they collect the flower and let them to dry. On drying it becomes like a raisin. People even eat them for any stomach problems. These dried flower were then boiled and then cooled to be served as local alcohol. Not sure how much quantity were from a kilo of these flower. But the liqour is in high demand in our area, farmers, laborers, or other people just take a glass of it every evening and enjoy in themselves.
Forget about, black label, chivas, old monk or any other branded alcohol, these naturally gifted liqour is the best for rural poor people. They know how to live along the nature and remain happy.
Was eager to share them long back, but happen to find them during my morning walk. To add on these are seasonal and can be found only during this time of the year.
