I guess this is the time for true confession. Haha. Anyone reading this, I hope you don't have my elder brothers address nor my mother's phone number hahaha.
It took me time to pick which one was the dumbest of all the things I did as a child because, I was just a child. Majority of my activities was going to be dumb. Hahahaha.
Wait, I was going to register my daughter on hive, when she comes in, Is she going to see this post? hahahaha. She is just going to ask why I am so strict with her and her Sister when I haven't been an angel. Hahaha. Now let's talk seriously.
HOW DUMB
Hmm, well the dumbest I ever did was to give a boy my pocket money every day. 🙈 and he kept collecting! 😃
This Boy lives at the backyard with his Mum and two Sisters. I haven't seen his father but rumour has it that his parents are separated. Even at that, I can not say, I pity him. I think I liked him.
Every day, when going to School, my Mother gives me money for school bus. Of course she had to because she always engaged my elder brothers and I before we go to School. We would help her arrange her soap in the basins and tie them well with a rubber. We then push the basins with a wheelbarrow to the park and secure a space for her in the vehicle that is loading. When we get home, my elder brothers will go fetch water while I make breakfast. Breakfast was not an easy one, it wasn't tea and bread. It could be beans and pap or eba and soup. Meanwhile, I need to go searching for where to buy the garri. So I was always late to School. I needed that money for transport daily.
Did you know that despite the lateness, I would dress up and pass through short cut and get to School not later than expected? I would save my transport. Instead of using it to buy snacks, I will keep it, hand it to that boy later in the afternoon. Haha
After School, I don't know if he does it to draw my attention, but when going to the stream to fetch water ( which he does daily), he will make noise in front of my house to alert me.😃 Noise such as " hurry I am already going o" or "don't waste my time" Haha. Those sounds may really not be for me. He may be talking to his siblings who are still dragging feet, I don't even know if he does it for me. All I know is that once I hear that sound, I would leave whatever it is I am doing and then take a small pale and head for the stream too. I may go with a few clothes to wash 😃. Just to see his face. 🙈
I never forgot to take along the money I have saved for me, and I will just walk up to him and tell him, I have something for you and then hand him the money. He never rejected. Hahaha.
Some kids rumoured that we both like each other and are dating but this guy never showed me any interest, other than collect my money. Hahahaha. And I kept giving. I never knew if he was scared of my elder Brothers or even using my money to give another girl. All I know is that I was happily giving someone money. Was it 1naira or 10naira that time? I think so.
It was obvious that nothing can work between us because we were still very small. But as we grew older , his position did not change. No letters from him, no messages, no gist in a corner, just fetching of water together and money donation and collection 😃
After a time, I got admission into school and before I would come home again, he too got admitted into a higher institution too 😅. That time, there was no phone. So we never get our numbers to communicate with. Sometimes during holidays, we never met until I learnt that his family had moved. His mother had built a house and they moved. Nobody heard anything from this guy until.......
A WEEK TO MY WEDDING.
Yes, he came just one week to my wedding to see me. 😃 I was shocked to see him at my door. Thank God my elder brothers had left home to hustle in different towns. Mum had gone to the market and Daddy was travelled. I was home with just my little ones, but I still didn't allow him in. We talked outside and he empresses how big and beautiful I have become. He also told me that he appreciates how I took care of him all those years. Finally, he told me that he wants me now, he wants to keep me for himself and he is ready to marry me that day if I said yes. Hahahaha. Look at someone I gave green light from childhood, 😅. He left me because I was so small and when I am big enough, he thinks he can walk back and still be in my heart? No.
I told him that I was getting married in a few days, he didn't believe. My wedding day came in a few days and I got married.
Just one week after my wedding a number called me. I picked and the voice told me that he was in my house with two of his relatives. It was him. I asked him what he was doing in my house, he said he wants to make his intention known. 😃. So I announced to him that I got married one week ago and living happily ever after in my husband's house. I told him never to call me again, and then he dropped the call and that was the last time I ever heard from him.
Childhood fantasies or what can I call it. Well, thank God we are wiser now. Hahaha.
