Pleasant greetings to you all. Happy new month. Hope the month is already rolling in goodies your way π.
I began the week by stating emphatically that my week would be filled with enough Owambes (naija parties). I wasn't kidding. The first one was held on Tuesday 29th of July, 2025. The second one was held on Thursday 31st of July, 2025. I'll be making a post about it later.
Today being Saturday, 2nd of August, 2025, saw me attending another party. On a serious note, my thighs are aching from excessive dancing already. But let me gist you guys on how the Owambe went before I begin to complain.
The party was actually a wedding ceremony for a long term friend of mine. We used to be colleagues in a private school at Surulere, Lagos State. My stay in that school was only for a year but the bond I formed with some of my colleagues then has lived through the test of time.
The bride of today's event is named Abigail. I call her Abby for short. She is a wonderful soul, very respectful and down to earth. We clicked almost immediately because I felt like she gets me a lot. She was the same person I wrote about who sent me twenty thousand naira when I was down some years before. We have been friends since 2015 till date. It is so amazing.
When I got her message in February telling me that she would be getting married in August, I was elated. My baby girl will be leaving the single ladies club soon. I promised that I would surely be in attendance and I began preparing for her big day. Finally, today was the big day Andi was there live and direct to represent.
I left Badagry all the way to Idi-araba in Mushin just to honour and celebrate with her. The venue used was the sickle cell foundation center opposite the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH). For those Nigerians who are conversant with Lagos roads, you can attest to the distance covered and the time spent getting to my destination but it was worth it.
Finally at the venue, I got to see the bride before she was whisked away for make up and all. I took advantage of the venue and began taking lovely photos of the place. I must confess that the wedding was very organized and orderly. There was no iota of rowdiness which is easily noticeable in wedding ceeemonies. This wedding was both classy and glamorous at the same time. I guess the strictly by invitation policy is very effective. All guests came in with an access card. No card no entry.
I will not bore you all with too many details about the wedding. I'll just go straight to the main part of every Owambe party and that is the Menu! Menu!! Menu!!! π.
Immediately the officiating pastor pronounced them as husband and wife, the food started rolling in. It is to serve yourself treatment. Chai...I wanted to bring out the foodie in me but I quickly remembered that I had already boasted to @ozd in the morning about me being a big girl and all and so with that, I just carried myself to serving normal rations like others.
I served two portions of jollof rice, one portion of fried rice, moi-moi and a big chunk of beef on my plate and respectfully sat down. Later, some servers brought chilled bottle water and Sprite for me. I took my time to do justice to the food but I left the plate for @justfavour and @abdul-qudus for them, just like I said I would. It is only @samostically that I didn't get to bring anything for, because there was no semovita on the buffet table.
After eating, it was time to distribute souvenirs and a goody bag was given to each one of us. The bag contained Dettol antiseptic liquid, a toothbrush (for abdul-qudus), a bottle of liquid soap and a pack of salt. I was still admiring the goody bag when I saw dust pans being distributed. Me I cannot carry last o. I stretched my hands and collected my own, lol.
Finally, after eating and drinking and collecting souvenirs, I stood up to greet the bride and drop my own gift for her as well. Then it was time to go. I left the venue at 4:30pm but I got back home at 9:45pm. I am exhausted but since I promised to gist you all of the Owambe, I gotta keep my promise.
So that's all for today's Owambe journey. Stay glued to me for more Owambe updates. I promise not to disappoint you.
My people, I hope I did justice ππ.
