There are some things in life we pick up naturally, even without being taught It’s not because we went to a class or sat under anyone to learn it just happens. One of those things for me is public speaking and storytelling.
Growing up, I never saw myself as someone who could stand in front of a crowd and talk. I was actually shy. The kind of person that would rather stay quiet and listen while others do the talking. But somehow life started placing me in situations where I had no choice but to speak up. From church group meetings to school debates and family events, I began to notice something people actually paid attention when I talked.
At first, I thought it was luck or maybe they were just being polite. But as time went on it became clear that I had a way of holding peoples attention. I didn’t use big grammar or try to impress anyone I just spoke from my heart and told stories the way they came to me. To my surprise people enjoyed listening. They would come up after and say things like You should be a speaker or You really have a gift.
I never read books on how to be a speaker. I didn’t attend any training or seminar. I didn’t even watch YouTube videos. It just came to me naturally I later found out that this thing I thought was normal for everyone was actually a talent Some people struggle with fear when talking to a crowd, but for me, it’s like I become a different person the moment I hold a microphone or have a story to share.
What makes it more special for me is that it has opened doors. I’ve hosted events, anchored programs, and even helped others prepare their speeches. All from something I never really learned. It’s not perfect I still get nervous sometimes but I’ve come to understand that if something is in you, it will always find a way to come out.
This talent has also helped me in writing. I now write the way I talk, and that has made my writing feel more real and relatable. I don’t force words or try to be perfect; I just express what I feel and what I know.
Sometimes we think we must learn everything in a formal way, but life can surprise us. You might have something in you that you’ve never paid attention to, but it’s a gift waiting to shine. I never learned public speaking in school, but today, it’s one of the things I’m most confident about.
So, I’ll say this not every talent needs a classroom. Some are just part of who you are in life
