Life in Nigeria will always teach you some hard lessons. You always have to work through. But sometimes you just have to let go of the hurt in order to move forward. The important thing that I have to let go is that fear of failing, or fear of what people will say, or just that fear of the unknown.
Growing up in my town, I've seen the effect of fear in me. And it can delay my progress. You're planning to start a new business, but you're thinking of what if it crashes, thinking about the negative effects first. You want to relocate to a better environment to get the better of the world. You start thinking what your family might think or say to your movement.
Fear has made me to live within my shadow.
And I know it's time to sacrifice that fear now. Last month, I had the chance to make a proposal on my business for a supermarket for my snacks. When I was about to meet the manager of the supermarket, I was scared to do, I said, what if they do not accept me? Or refuse to accept my product?
I almost didn't go. I wanted to just try selling the product at home. Instead of reaching out to the supermarket. But I realized that staying in my comfort zone will keep me small, and w my business also. So I just summoned courage. I took a deep breath, and decided to go. And fortunately, they loved my snacks after testing it.
And that moment showed me that fear was nothing but a big fat liar. It will always make you think twice, and focus your attention more on the negative part of the thing while you are not capable of achieving it. When you sacrifice fear, it doesn't mean that you are not going to be scared. It means you act despite the fear.
So now I have started delivering my snacks to the supermarket, but I am still trying to save up so that I can open my own shop too. I am getting the perfect design for my business. Every night after finishing my tailoring job. And that's the process. I have to tell you, the process is scary, but it's also exciting. It's an amazing journey.
In Nigeria, where life is always through some kind of challenges, maybe power shortage, and fuel prices, letting go of fear of finding a way to move forward can be very daunting. So if you are someone who always has a fear to hold you down, it's just not something, you just have to let go sometimes.
Take that bold step, start that side hustle apply for that job or speak with people speak up about your dream, share your vision with others maybe, you might see someone that share the same vision with you and you guys can just grow together.
