If I have to think of every time I was at my best, there’ll be an encyclopedia filled with a bunch of them. I have experienced that high so many times. From as young as I remember to being old as I am now.
If I have to remember one high, an IT moment that stuck, it’ll be when I just began as a MOD for Hive Naija.
Over a year ago, I volunteered to join in the able committee of moderators consisting of Nonsowrites, Young-boss-Karin, Khaleesii, Belemo and Wolfofnostreet. I never knew what I was coming to do at first, only that I wanted to contribute in some way on Hive and being a moderator gave me that platform.
A lot of ideas kept brimming in my mind but I had to put the lid on it. I was only following. Not until, little by little, I began to take the reigns. The Mods had to deal with real life and I was joyfully willing to take control. Mind you, it was not all rose and sunshine.
As the only available MOD, I tried to make sure the system was still in place. I held three Hive Naija Telegram meetings (which was moved to discord) myself. The sponsors dropped off and I had to come up with a way to incentivise the members to keep posting because I loved seeing those entries.
To make this happen, I reached out to Dreemport and invited some of the members to our weekly meetings. I had no idea what I was doing by the way. I only knew I was after a goal and that goal was to make Hive Naija a community to be reckoned with. I took inspiration from communities all around. I asked as many MODs and Admins as I could how they went about running their communities. The replies were very helpful and it gave me the blueprint for a map.
When the plan was in place, Hive Naija went into its first collaboration with Dreemport. However, after a meeting with the then MODs, it was decided it’ll be better to create a new community and call it SPEEKPEECE in favour of the collaboration.
After the collaboration ended, the SPEEKPEECE community was dead. Literally. I came at a standstill and just knew I had to come up with something. This was when the Mods officially handed me over the community. Indeed… I was lost.
I was excited but I was also scared as fuck because… where do I even start from? I didn’t know. So, I just continued with prompts and the meetings (which eventually stopped too). It looked bleak to anyone else but to me, I had a vision and that vision kept my fire burning.
What I did next was seek help. I reached out to people I thought fit and some reached out to me as well. Long story made short, our current mods came onboard; The Tech Wizard @olujay, our very own Whale dragon @meritahama, the capable mama of the house @nkemakonam89, our Teddie @george-dee and the sassy missy @jhymi.
They all came at the right time too. When our minds rub together, it’s electrifying. When we go ahead to execute the plans, it’s mind blowing and the results that follow, beyond gratifying. I couldn’t have asked for better people with passion and the zeal for Hive and their country.
In no time, the Beeg Move happened, so did zealy and Hive Naija winning a 100,000 HP delegation. Then the buzz of Leofinance (Now InLeo). Everything just seemed to be falling in place and working for Hive Naija to get out the dumps.
The Hive Naija now is a long way from what it was before. The speed of likeminded individuals coming together to make things happen, created a spark and moved us from the “dead” community we were. From barely 20 entries a week to 51 (at maximum). From an epileptic HP and curation trail to over 10,000 in HP (organic and delegations). This was possible because of so many hands (both old and new) coming on deck. And that I’m very grateful for.
One of my most memorable IT moments would always be the buildup of Hive Naija and 5 years from now, I’ll write another one of these when Hive Naija is in such a capable place that even the world recognizes us. Sounds ridiculous? Well, if your visions aren’t bigger than you, they are just thoughts.
