It’s early Saturday morning as I’m writing this, and honestly, I’m just here hoping this weekend turns out better than the rest of my week. Lagos is already awake, I can hear the danfo horns in the distance, people shouting, and generator humming from one corner like that. No peace anywhere
Saturday in Lagos no dey ever quiet. Even this early morning, everywhere is already moving fast. Market people setting up, buses honking like their life depends on it. But in all this rush and noise, I’m really just hoping to find small peace for myself. Nothing big, nothing dramatic, just space to breathe and not feel too overwhelmed.
This week was somehow. Not even because anything terrible happened, but I just felt like I was doing too much and still not feeling like I’m moving forward. You know that kind of feeling? Where you wake up early, do everything you’re meant to do, but at the end of the day, you still feel off. That’s how it has been lately.
So this weekend, I don’t want to put myself under pressure. I know Saturday will be busy, it always is. Even just stepping out to buy something, you’ll meet traffic, crowd, heat, and wahala. But I’m not letting that mess up my mood. I’ll try to take the day slow. If I clean the house, fine. If I don’t, I won’t beat myself up. If I eat proper food, fine. If I just end up eating bread and groundnut, that’s okay too 😅
I’m not expecting anything special. I just want to feel like I’m in control of my own space and time for once. Maybe catch up on Hive posts, maybe write my thoughts down like I’m doing now. Or just listen to music and chill for a bit before Lagos stress starts again in full force.
I don't want any owanbe wahala too, even though I was invited to a wedding party today, the party is not an important one for me to attend because I don't directly know the couples, and that apart i just want to have today for myself no party stress abeg, owanbe in Lagos are usually stressful even though there would be lots of food .
I don’t know if I’ll go out yet. Sometimes I plan to stay in, but one friend or neighbour will just call and drag me somewhere. I might go sha, if it’s not too far. I’ve realized that being around people once in a while helps, especially the ones you can be yourself around, no forming.
What I really want this weekend is softness. Just small softness in the middle of all the Lagos madness. Even if it’s just laying down with my phone and watching random videos or taking a long shower without thinking about anything.
I’m tired of always acting like I’ve got everything figured out. This weekend, I just want to exist, not to impress anybody, not to hustle, just to be.
If you’re reading this and you also feel like the week drained you, I hope you find time this weekend to rest. Not everybody has the luxury of free time, I know. But even 10 mins of peace can do wonders for your head.
Let’s just take it one moment at a time. And if the weekend doesn’t go the way I plan, at least I tried to start it with the right mindset.
